Hi Freddie,
Students like it when we make the lesson applicable to the real world. This type of teaching generates great excitement and interest.
Patricia

I share work related experiences to engage students in the course.

I teach at an elementary school in addition to teaching at the career school. I find that adult students enjoy the same types of things my elementary students do - stickers on their papers, funny stories, video clips, pictures, cooperative learning. Just because they're older doesn't mean they don't enjoy the same things. I try to keep the course content and delivery fun and relevant to their lives.

One of the fun activities I created involved a quiz review using four motorcycles with clutch switches. I built a divice with a light for each bike activated by the clutch switch. Then asked the question via a power point and the student that knew the answer released the switch and the light came on. This simulated a starting gate for a motorcycle race. The students responded quite well.

I like to use real life situations that I have experienced, bring a light hearted approch to some of the chalanges that I've had and that the learner could have. Get the class involved with some of thier stories and use them during the lesson.

Hi Brandon,
Students love it when fun is involved while learning. Fun is healthy for all.
Patricia

My natural enthusiasm and outgoing personality as well as getting them involved and excited about the training.

Hi William,
Students enjoy role play and other critical thinking exercises that are applicable to the lesson.
Patricia

I totaly agree. There needs to be an air of fun. I've often used a humours situation to bring a point across. Many are my own experiences.
Brandon

Hi Linda,
You serve as a great role model to inspire your students to let them know, if you did it, they can do it.
Patricia

I like to share my personal educational and work experiences with my students. I like them to know that I was sitting in the same chair as them at one point.

One of the was in which the students can become excited is to continuously keep them involved. The use of role play and other interactive means will give the learner the opportunity to take ownership and contribute in meaningful ways.

This Quarter in my business class we're shooting a YouTube video acting out in a humorous way the concepts of Capitalism, Communism and Socialism. They seem to love coming up with the script and then doing it.

Hi Brandon,
When students are involved in the lesson they tend to be a lot more interested and excited. Having fun while learning is a perfect combination.
Patricia

It is all about relevance. It you can make some connection between the topic of the day and how it will make them better at their career, it can often help. Not as easy for everybody's courses as it is in my field (healthcare). I often start with my lecture topic, cover the basics, then try to engage the class with discussion after telling a story from my experiences in the field that tie everything together.

Give an outline of objectives including some fun activities involving team work. Then tie that excercise into the "real world" application.
explaining the Pro's and con's. Using alot of student interaction.

I try to bring the students into my world with different sceneros from my day as a home health nurse. The examples help them understand the material being presented.

Hi Stephen,
Great ideas! I like to do a lot of group work in math and make my more advanced students the group leaders.
Patricia

Hi Charlene,
Students get really excited when they hear about stories that are applicable to the lesson. When things are real students seem to be more interested.
Patricia

i always give real life examples of the things that I have done or experienced and make it exciting for them that they may get to have the chance to have great experience from their career also.
