I show students examples of my work and how the course content relates to real world work.

Hi Kundukisa,
You are on point! When we make the course relevant to the work place, students see the importance of the course.

Hi Brenda,
Students clearly see the benefits of a course when they know that course will help them with their certification. They are anxious and excited about the course because they fully understand the relevancy.

In addition to my own correlation to real work stories and situations, many of the learners are adults with some experience in the medical field also and I encourage their own (relevant) stories too.

...It is sweet when a student-peer actually affirms the course relevancy.

I use my experience in my field to show relevance. I share stories from my job and explain what I had to do in certain situations.

Some of the ways I can show my students relevancy of my course are:

- The utilization of case studies typical of what takes place in actual work environments in their field of study.
- The employment of practical hands-on demonstrations and in-class activities similar to what is commonly encountered in ambulatory health facilities, medical offices and hospitals.

By incorporating real world examples of how the information or skill is to be used will reinforce the relevancy of the subject material. The courses I teach are very detailed and directed to the outcome of passing board exmainations. By engaging the students with information, and real world applications, the students unders tand why this is important to learn, and why they may need to remember the details.

Showing relevancy of course contents increases the students likelihood for accomplishing a goal.It is also important because the solution of any problem requires prior identificaton of the materials where a solution can be constructed.

Students need to have reassurance that what they are learning does relate to their field of study. Relating course content to personal experiences will show students the correlation between the content and the field. I also like to give scenarios to students and have them use what they have learned from the course to develop a plan and work through the scenario.

I teach Critical Thinking so I try to explain the importance of problem solving, ect. in their everyday lives. I also use examples from my life to explain how critical thinking has helped me. I also try to show my excitement about the different topics in the course.

Hi Ronald,
Students get real excited once they know what they are learning will be utilized in the workplace.

Hi Ashlee,
Students enjoy hearing real-life examples applicable to the real world.

It lets the student know what they will be learning in a particular course. Also it shows the student what knowledge he/she may gain to use in their career and job.

I like to use visual aids or demonstrations how a specific skill for example would be used in their chosen field.

I use real-life examples from my experience as a Clinician to get our PTA student excited about the course and course content. It helps to paint a picture of what will be expected of them when they are in their professional careers.

Hi Emily,
Students like to act as though if they are in charge. It gives students something to look forward to in the real world once they begin their career; working your way to the top will hopefully land you a supervisory role.

At some point during the course, I usually have my students visualize themselves as the "boss" or hiring authority. Many times, they understand the relevancy of composition and presentation skills immediately afterward.

Hi Heidi,
I like to show course relevancy by bringing in classified ads that pertain to the course or the skill(s) the student will obtain from the course.

Hi Cynthia,
Super way to get students to see the importance of the course. Excellent way to motivate students to want to keyboard the correct way.
