I find that each student has their own challenges. One difficultly that I have been having is while training the student that "acts up" for the sake of arguement, the other students are not aware that you are addressing the problem.
Certainly, it is not my place to discuss any disaplinary, or specialized training, with the rest of the class.
I'd be interested to know how others handle this situation. Although they do see the difference over time, it doesn't stop the rumor mill, or the scuttlebutt.
How do you recommend letting the other students know that the behavior is being addressed without sharing confidential information regardin the student that is affecting the overall class perception? I am open to all recommendations and thank you.

I think one of the biggest mistakes instructors make is to "presume" why a student is behaving a certain way. If we go with the basic tenet that all behavior has meaning, then it is one of our jobs to attempt to find out the reason for he behavior.
Everyone in the classroom has their own challenges that sometimes get reflected in their behavior.
Let a student know you care and offer to help but they must also internalize that they are ultimately responsible for the directions their lives take -whether in or out of the classroom.
Hi Dolores,
Handle situation as they arise. It is fine to do these things immediately after class time, or if there is a dire need sometimes they have to be done during class time.

Would it be appropriate to mention in class whatever open door policy you have for any questions or concerns about class outside of class time? If so, at the same time, it would be appropriate to inform the class that whenever there are class/student issues that need to be addressed; they are done so in private.
I find that the energy of what I am feeling about something gives power to my words. Just you thinking and knowing that the situation is handled; you will give off that energy if you keep your focus there and don't put energy into concern about what the other students are thinking. Give off good 'vibes'; not just a catch phrase, human beings have an energy field that other people feel and respond to.

Hi Jay,
When students see the change in the behavioral student, they should know that measures have been taken. You certainly cannot discuss students with other students. Actions must speak louder than words.
