I think bringing in a guest speaker will help with seeing what someone in there field has been able to accomplish
Hi Sandy,
Students have to be kept engaged. Guest speakers add a lot of flavor to the course.

Having a guest instructors give a demonstration of the exact skills the student will be using lets the student experience how the skill will apply to their their on the job expectations.
I usually invite several guest speakers for my 16 psych nursing classes per semester. I am always surprised by which students respond to a particular speaker and now I have gained some insight into why that might occur: Perhaps these are students who are discouraged and need a spark reignite their interest and regain their focus.
I esepcially enjoyed this unit and learned a lot of new strategies: Great job, Ms. Scales!

A guest speaker can give a student a different perspective when it comes to understanding a course. This is useful for students than become discouraged because it allows them to hear a voice different from the teacher's.
As an instructor who has been through the complete process from student to instructor, I understand the importance of seeing the big picture. Adult learners need to see that what they are doing is relevant and will ultimately pay off if they put in the "work".
I think it helps the student see what they are learning about first hand.
Hi Khouloud,
Guest speakers are priceless! I agree with your response. Guest speakers help students understand the real life of the course as it pertains to the book theory.

The utilization of guest speakers in an educational setting is certainly effective. With that said, speakers motivate students and instill hope for the future. In general, students look forward to meeting new people, and individuals who are employed in the relevant field of study. In addition, in meeting guest speakers, students become more serious about starting their new careers.
Using a guest speaker is a really good resourse for all students. they give the students an encouragement that maybe an instructor is not able to give. I use student students that are on externship and graduates.
I have found that having a guest speaker is very motivating to my students. Not only does it give them encouragement but it also gives them a different perspective on life beyond the classroom. And that it is something that they can actually achieve.
Hi Alma,
Sometimes students need to hear from other professionals to help make the information stick. Guest speakers are priceless.

Guest speakers are great. I use then in my classes and the seem to reach those students that I haven't reached. This helps the student to get clarification of information that is needed
Hi Patrice and Class,
Guest speakers can be great resources as it helps liven up class discussions. A guest speaker can bring a different viewpoint or expertise that can help create a rounder and fuller class discussion.
Guest speakers can also role model how a certain skill-set that is being learned in the classroom can be utilized in the real world.
Students may feel inspired by a guest speaker in that they were able to pursue a career path using a certain skill set that they are now sharing.
Guest speakers can also humanize a book or concept in an area that is their expertise.
Guest speakers should be selected upon the match to the subject area. They should be not used unnecessarily but judiciously as to the degree they match the course content and bring forth a new perspective.
Best,
Julie
My guest speaker has his own bussiness for years if the feild of what they are going to school for it gave them a sence of it can be done and set them goals of they can do it to.
I often use guest speakers that are recent graduates that are now employed in their field. I have found it helps motivate and solicit discussion from students.
I agree on guest speakers who work in the field. They provide insight as to what they traits they look for in potential employees. Potential employers also will brush up on professionalism in the field. This has proven useful especially to challenging students. Usually they are the ones asking more questions about what is expected of them while attending class and if that really matters.
Guest speakers are a vauable asset to the couse of instruction. Having individuals from the field the student explain what is require to be sucessful in thier chosen field is very helpful. Hhaving prior graduates come and share thier stories and facts about what the course of school did to help them find a job and helped them to do a better job is ver important
Guest speakers who work in the field are particularly effective. Students really enjoy their presentations and learn a lot from them.
They are great to show what the student can accomplish and where they can go with this career field.
