challenging students

If instructors have good listening skills, it's uncommon that they be challenged by a student.

Not sure this is true - I have good listening skills , and I get students whose expectations of class and reality aren't the same...and those students become a huge challenge. In my experience, the attitude comes from the student. I just get in the line of fire. Sometimes, I can get the student to realize how she is behaving and its impact - Sometimes I can't. The second type of student is tough to work with throughout the whole course. She is very pleasant afterward. She just didn't want to do the course - and I happen to be the instructor.
