It is important to interact with every student to make sure that each student 'feels' and knows that they are important, wanted and that they matter as well as what they want matters.

If a student knows you care about them as a person, learning will follow.
They trust you, when they have input you are willing to listen, and in fact, they may truly have something valuable to add!

Hi Timothy,
I understand this tendency. I am sure we as instructors do have those moments. Keep trying to make a personal connection by engaging in small talk, smiling, and greeting.

It is important to interact with every student to make them feel welcome and part of the class - they are "in the club". They have made a decision to invest in their future. As an instructor we should support them it that decision by creating a warm, caring, supportive learning environment.

Interaction is important with every student because as an educator we need to reach out to every student to ensure a stable, reliable and trust worthy relationship to build our students trust. They are entrusting that we have their best interests and we need to follow through with great customer service.

I think interaction with every student is important because it shows you are genuenly intrested in them as a person, as well as their academic success

I think most students appreciate a sense of personal inclusion. Also, it can be the beginning of improvement for the "hide in the back" shy types. The student I have the most difficulty knowing how to treat is the quiet negative/angry type. The sour faces and negative responses make me sorry I have attempted to interact, so my natural tendency is to ignore them.

Interacting with each and every student in the classroom is imperative for building good rapport. Making regular eye contact, addressing students by their names, giving praise for good participation are some of the examples of ways to make each student feel important and involved.

I have found that students need to feel like they are valued. It makes them more willing to learn. If I were to ignore a student, they wouldn't like me and they wouldn't get anything out of my lecture. People in general just like to feel cared. when you treat people like they matter, they will believe it and hopefully then believe in themselves.

Hi Ladansa,
Treat all students the same and interact with everyone so that students feel they have a relationship with you.

They meaning the students need to know that they are important. If an instructor only interact with one student. You as the instructor want all your students to feel comfortable in the class to communicate with you and there peers.

It is important to establish a rapport with the student. To understand what kind of learner they are in order to be able to communicate with them the most effective way.

By building a rapport with every student, I find students are more willing to discuss any concerns or problems they are having with the course content. This timely feedback is critical for me to make sure I'm providing them with an appropriate and complete learning experience.

I have many students who are the first generation in their family to pursue higher education. Unfortunately, their families aren't always supportive making comments such as "our family isn't college material". These students need encouragement and a sense that they do belong here.

Students will engage if they feel that the playing field is fair, or even for them. The teacher can go along way in making this so. I always look for the quiet ones and make sure that I speak with them during breaks, etc. They tell me about themselves and it helps with classroom discussions and my overall knowledge of what type of student they are and what personal strengths and weaknesses they have. Seems to work well and has for many years.

In my mind, students thrive on interaction with their instructors. I think this is true whether they think so or not. As a student, if the teacher knew my name and showed genuine interest in my education, and tried to help me achieve, I was more likely to be engaged in class, i.e. paying attention, particpating, doing well on homework. As a teacher I think it is necessary so that I can check whether students are understanding information or not. I need that interaction to show them that I am invested in them and that they are capable of doing well in my class.

Interaction on a regular basis with every student helps to build a relationship between instructor and student. This relationship can help the student feel more comfortable in class, decrease the chance of cheating or even being disrespectful. It also helps the instructor understand where each student in coming from.

Interacting with each student acknowledges them as a part of the class and gives them a sense of belonging to the class. It also makes it more difficult for those quiet students to "disappear". They can be quiet and still be acknowledged in some way.

Hi Marie,
I agree! Our students are the reasons we have job. They are vitally important, and we should treat them like jewels.
