By interacting with every student you are creating a better learning enviornment. We all know each student is different and interacting with each student helps you learn more about them so that you can cater your instruction to their needs.

I agree with you entirely there is nothing I would want to add to your comment. Establishing rapport with each one of your students makes for a greater learning experience

Hi Vicki,
Learning students name is a good way to begin building the relationship. Students feel a sense of importance when we know their name.

To maintain equality throughout the classroom it is imperative to interact with every student. If you only focus on a select group of students you are cheating them of the education that they deserve.

Beginning this interaction with Day 1 is extremely important. It establishes rapport with the students, lets the student know that you are open to speaking with them if a problem develops, etc. I am beginning my 3rd year of instructing in the MA program. Each new class I have had I challenge myself to learn the students names within the first 2 or 3 classes. This not only helps me, but the students really like that I can call them by their name when I see them in the hallways.

Saying hello when they come into the room, eye contact, knowing their name, injecting a little humor while delivering content are a few things that open a relationship with a new student.

Making them feel comfortable in the class room and with you as an instructor is the first step in breaking down barriers and building a working learning experience for both student and instructor.

Hi Kenneth,
Student/teacher interaction is a must! Rapport building with students carries weight! Students will work hard for you if they trust you and know that you truly care about them and their success.

Interacting with students

If students could just assimilate the information without any intervention, instructors would not be needed. This is not the situation and instructors are needed to present the material, create a reason for its content, explain its relevance, and bring the material to life. Instructors need to develop an interactional relationship with each student. When individuals do not feel part of the situation, they are more than likely to disengage and lose interest.

When instructors develop interactions with students, it shows the student that the instructor has care and concern for the student. These interactions need to be greater than just handing out the syllabus, assignments, and exam. Individuals develop intrinsic motivation when they believe that they are a part of what is happening in their life. This intrinsic motivation happens for a student when the instructor develops strong interactions with them. The student can develop their own desire to interact with the instructor other than just having information and material presented at them instead of a share experience that both parties learn from.

Because this keeps them engaged in the class and builds a rapport with them to keep them learning and coming to class.

It is important for several reasons, the first one being they have invested in their education and they have expectations. Also it makes each and every student feel important and that you are there for them to help them along their jouney.

Within our industry, it is very important that employees feel comfortable that they can talk with all levels of management. So beginning the process of professional rapport with the students builds the comfort level in class, and enables them to grow with the knowledge that they can have an open line of communication with management.

Hi Jennifer,
You are right! We need to find out how each student learns best so that we can be more effetive when teaching our students. I try to include all the types of learners in my explanation of a concept.

Hi Michael,
I can tell you are a great role model! Continue to lead by example!

Each student has a different learning style & ability... By interacting with them & gaining that relationship... We can gage how we explain topics or assist them individually

Being a role model for students is paramount here at a career college. Students bring lots of issues to class with them, and ask for advice. We also have to show them out professionalism wins out over " i am going to do it my way attitude". My students see me everyday, it is important to maintain a professional attitude with them no matter what, it will be expected of them in their future jobs.

Hi Michael,
We should certainly be the role models that we want our students to become.

Professional rapport means that its at all times, in and out of the class room. The students are going to go into a professionl setting in the coarse that I teach, so it start here at college. The relationship is based on professionalism and we are the role models to show them the way to be. I dont think instructors should not be very personal with students outside of the classroom however, do give of your experiences and have a good attitude.

Hi Elizabeth,
It also important for the instructor to interact with students in order to build a rapport.

It is important for the students to interact for a couple of reasons; It helps the student gain confidence in asking questions or contributing to class discussions, It gives the student an outlet to express their personality, and it helps the student understand the information given in a different manner. They gain a sense of importance that their ideas and comments are being heard and acknowledged

Hi Michael,
It is important to have a professional rapport with your students. Students are more comfortable with you if you have developed a relationship with them.
