So that they know that they are important and that their success matters
Often, our students have not had positive interactions within the educational setting. It is important to show that their instructors can be interested, involved and also know their stuff! I try to learn some interesting tidbit of info about every student, does someone like soccer as I do? Perhaps someone has a kid the same age as mine. This allows us to connect not only as instructor and student, but on a simple person to person level.
It's important to interact with each student because they everyone learns differently. By showing each student individual attention, you might engage a person that wouldn't otherwise feel comfortable asking a question or answering in class. If you engage each student regularly, they will be more likely to feel comfortable with you, which may lead to them becoming more productive learners in your class.
They need to know we actually care about being there and helping them learn. And we need to get to know our students better to assess their learning styles and personalities.
I think teaching the students to build on each other's comments helps each one feel important and included in the group. I then become the facilitator to set up the learning. It can take a difficult student and engage them and can create respect as the norm in the classroom.
Interaction with every student is essential in ensuring no one feels left out. It is so easy to accidently overlook a student, especially, in a large class.
When you interact with all students, you encourage better attendance, fewer dropouts and a better overall learning experience for all students.
I agree. A Career College is designed to prepare students directly for the work place. Any advice we can provide based on our own work experience is not only helpful but sshiws we have an interest in their success. By deteriming the goals of each student during the early days of the semester, it is possible to forcus the course tward those goals.

Agreed.
I have a similar experience with student in my evening classes and I find consistent encouragement helps as well.
I chose this topic because I believe that it is the one thing that will help you to avoid all of the other topics all together. When you have interaction, and more importantly develop a rapport with every student in your class, you will help to discourage the angry or cheating students from doing these actions. Obviously you will never eliminate them completely, however, when the student knows they have a bond of trust with you, the instructor, they will be more likely to talk to you about an anger situation, or not be willing to jeapordize their standing by sheating.
It is important to have interaction with every student because it shows that you are invested in them and their success. By taking interest, it also shows them that they have a support system at school. I start my interaction by having students complete a student interest survey where I have the opportunity to learn more about them. In addition, I interact with my students during class, I monitor the class by walking around providing assistance and direction, and I interact with them in between classes as well. They seem more receptive when it is time to learn.
Student interaction is highly important. As educators, we are present and available to extend working knowledge of our individual fields to our students. The students should feel that each of them are important and that success in their chosen fields are vital. They should feel that as instructors, we should put forth our best effort to see them succeed, not leaving anyone out or leading anyone astray. Every student play a vital role in their achievements, why not do our best to help them along the way.

i think by interacting with students you build trust and they start to interact not just with you but the hole class and are able to communicate effectivly...
Interaction helps student learning.
I feel that interaction with every student is important to keep them engaged and interested. It also helps the student to know that you care about them and their learning.
Hi Katherine,
Students feel a sense of importance when the instructor learns their name. Everyone feels they matter when they are called by name.

I know from my own experience attending large classes, that I began to feel more & more 'left out' and it eventually became very hard to make myself attend the remaining sessions -even for subjects that I fully understood.
As an instructor I make a point of learning the student's names as quickly as possible, and using their names to call on /invite input from as many people as possible with each class.
:) When they know I know their name and may call upon them at any point in the discussion they are more likely to pay attention and come to class prepared. And hearing input from everyone helps them get to know their peers.

Theoretically, interacting with students helps them to feel included and demonstrates that they are in fact a valued part of the class.
Hi Michelle,
Even adult learners love it when the instructor interacts with them. Rapport building is important in a student/instructor relationship. Let's make students feel important and help them succeed by establishing a rapport with them.

It is so important to interact with them because they have paid for an education and interacting with the teachers is the only way to get that education. It helps them learn their material as well as how to interact with others. It gives them confidence and builds relationships. It prepares them for the future and for success.
Interacting with each student individually is important for many reasons. By showing that student you have taken the time to learn their name and engage them personally, you will likely earn their trust and portray a sense of caring. You have allowed them to see that you care about their success as a student, and you have chosen to teach because you want to help them in any way you can.
