Dealing with challenging students
This is a difficult task. Sometimes you have to be creative in doing this. My best advice is to try different strategies. Continue to make sure that these students are learning. This often provides a learning tool for instructors as well.

Wow! It amazes me how a student would question one's credentials, as if personnel is hiring unqualified folks.

The only time this ever happened was when a student challenged me to justify my experience that qualifies me to teach this course. After giving him my business and educational background he agreed that I was qualified.
What I've done in the past is right away sit down with that student and offer my assistance. Usually they have had previous issues with the school or have personal issues that bring in to the classroom. Once I find out what the problem is, come up with a plan that will help that student change his/her attitude but always be supportive. Make that student feel that you are there to help.
