I have changed students seats at random when i think one is relying on another for to much help with the work.
i agree with scrambling test, so even in a large class students sitting next to each can not copy or they will notice that the person next to them question is either longer, shorter or may be multiple choice.
I have tried to move seats in the past and that works. Same with different versions of the test to one class. I have lately been handing out the test or quiz and telling my students if I hear anything other than silence during the test or quiz I am taking the paper and it is a zero - no if's and's or but's! Same goes for looking around! That has seem to been the most effective. That and I am always walking around during test to see what is going on.

Smart practice! Scrambling test questions are painless these days due to have such advanced technology.

I use different versions of the test to help prevent cheating. The same questions are used, just in different order.
