Hi Vanessa,
Remember to always make sure cell phones are put away as well. Cell phones can be a student's best buddy when it comes to cheating.
Patricia

Hi Jacqueline,
Students will sometimes clue you in if they know of a student cheating. I do try to make it hard for the student to cheat once I am aware, but most importantly I watch this particular student like a hawk.
Patricia

I became of aware of a student I thought was cheating so I made it has hard as I could by having every thing off the tables. Also by moving around the room.

Well I have learned to become more active moving around and talking while observing the activies of each student or the suspected ones.

The best way to reduce is to show the students that you are watching and checking for any suspicous activity. Laying out the rules out front. Walk around constantly and checking desk, books on the floor that may be opened.

I usually assess what the room looks like before classes begin and how many students I have. I ask students to space themselves and to sit closer to the front of the room.

be aware of the surroundings, cell phones, body positioning. I always create more than 1 test where the questions are scrambled and alternate between students

Hi Henry,
Great list for ways to reduce cheating.
Patricia

To reduce cheating I maintain a constant vigial over the students. I also tell the students on the first day what will happen if they are caught cheating.

Hi Paz,
Using different versions of the test is a great strategy to reduce cheating.
Patricia

Toreduce cheating I :
have all items not needed to the test put away

create proper spacing

stand at the back of class

on objective test - I may even create two versions of the tests - same questions - different order

Hi Elaine,
The set up of the classroom has a lot to do with the students ability to cheat. This is a good idea to set up the classroom so that it makes it difficult for students to cheat if you can.
Patricia

I try to set up the classroom in a manner that makes it difficult to view other student's tests. I also have them remove all items from the desk during the exam.

I always have my students leave personal items (book bags, books, purses, phones, etc) at the back of the room while they are taking a test. They also are spread out to reduce "wondering eyes".

i print different sets of test, put everything away other than their pen and remind them that they will benefit from learning in the class

When conducting exams I find it best when I have students clear away all materials that may make the ability for them to cheat more accesible. Also, walking around the room or standing in back of the classroom where you might have a clearer vision of the students has helped. Being fully aware and unoccupied while testing is in progress is also helpful. I have found that relating to the students that cheating is only making them cheat themselves in the long run will instill in them that cheating is never the right way.

Hi Carlena,
Seating arrangements is an old yet effective strategy. It really does minimize cheating.
Patricia

Hi Michael,
Students must realize the importance of integrity and honesty. Honesty really is the best policy. The students must know they are only hurtig themselves when they cheat.
Patricia

I always tell my students, "Do things in earnest"-if you don't you'll pay the price later, if you do the benefits will be well worth the effort.

To help reduce student cheating, I have all the students sit at separate tables and if that is not possible, they sit at least one chair apart. Also, they are not allowed to have any materials other than the test and their pencil on the table. This seems to have been very effective for me and my classroom.
