Hello, I agreee with you. I have two people who are shy in one of my classes so I sometimes let them lead the way with a little assistance. getting to know them really helps them to open up, and then they become more involved.

It is important to have interaction with every student because: It gives them a snese of comfort knowing someone is listening and trying to help them reach goals. it giives them a sense of importance when they give feedback. they may have a point of view that you can learn from as well. Motivation and inspiration is best for the student because they may need to feel like they are part of a group and that thei opinions count.

Hi Faith,
What a great purpose to have in life. I am sure you have impacted many lives over your career. Continue to make a difference!

I wanted to return to my hometown to talk with kids there, but since I never seem to be there during a planned time so I could schedule a presentation, I finally decided to speak with kids locally. I hope I give them incentive to make good life choices. I have worked for the government for 30 years and lived all over the world - have run adult education centers and enjoy helping young people figure out what they want to do in life.

Hi Faith,
Some students simply do not get the support at home that they need education wise. You are certainly providing a great deed to students and to society...thank you.
Patricia

I am volunteering at a local high school to help students figure out what they want to do - available to any student who feels they lack a family support system. Some kids need more help.

Hi Kevin,
I certainly respect your perspective as stated. Contrary to belief, I have had some students that I thought would never be dishonest, caught cheating. I was very disappointed, and the students were ashamed that they were caught.
Patricia

By interacting with every student you can build rapport, and hopefully reduce the temptation to cheat. This I believe, if I understood the module correctly, is because the student feels like he/she is being recognized as an integral part of the class, and connected to the instructor rather than just being seen as a number. Fear of jeopardizing this connection and losing this rapport may cause a student tempted to cheat to think otherwise.
Interaction with every student also allows the instructor to gauge the students’ demeanor, and attitude. Therefore, the instructor can be more keenly aware if and when changes in the normative behavior of the students may take place. This way he/she can address any potential problems right away.

Hi Thomas,
Even if you are unable to interact with each student daily because of having a large class, greet all and give all a pleasant smile. I try to treat all students the same so that no one feels picked on or neglected.
Patricia

Let me ask a question to all ??? In a room of 25 to 30 students you cannot " interact " with them all. That would take too much time out of the course. I have tried to do this on a day by day basis by picking out a few students that day and involving them more. Do you ever do this , do you find students think they are being " picked on " or neglected ? What is a proper balance ?

I enjoy getting to know my students I think it helps me to be a better teacher ...I can use some of my same experiences that maybe they are dealing with in their own lives to open a discussion about the subject we are currently learning

You want to make sure you have interaction with every student so there are no "favorites" and there are no students left out. If you focus your attention on part of the class rather than the whole class, some students may feel deprived and not welcome and thus loose interest in coming to class. Keeping the whole class on the same level will most likely give you a high retention level and keep all the students happy to be there.

It is important to interact will every student to show that they are all equal of receiving your attention, time and respect. All students should be treated equally.

Hi Kleinkauf,
It is IMPERATIVE that as the instructor you treat all students the same. Students are quick to play the favortisim card on you, if they ever sense you are impartial to some students.
Patricia

It is very important to have interaction with every student to avoid any student talking of favoring one over the other, to avoid students assuming that the instructor has no interest in them as a person, to get to know the students as a person and build up good rappor. The students will see that the instructor is also human.

All students need to feel valued. All students need to feel that their time in class is not a waste. I try to call on everyone in class, especially the quiet ones. That helps to make everyone feel a part of the class, as well as making the quiet ones more likely to have greater participation in future classes. Doing this, I have had quiet ones blossom and become class leaders.

Hi James,
Interacting with EVERY student is important. We need to interact with all students so that students do not think that favoritism is being shown.
Patricia

Interacting with every student lets them know that you are engaged in their education and accessible as an instructor. It also encourages class participation and overall comfort.

Hi Joseph,
What an awesome list! I can tell you put your students first, you serve as a great role model, and you truly care about each of your students. Your students are fortunate to have you as one of their leaders.
Patricia

Hi Daniel,
Interacting with students help with rapport building. Students need to know that we are approachable and personable.
