During exams, I do a lot of walking around. I had out different exams. They sit apart from each other and they understand the importance of being ethical.

I use this technique. Show me how to do xyz, or in other words let them teach it to me. That way I can identify my own outages with my lesson or style of teaching.

I use several versions of a test to prevent eye roving. Many of the questions that I use are short answer, which means that the student has to explain the learned concept in their own words...making it harder to cheat. I also space the students if the room size permits and walk the room.

Hi Yaima,
Students must be fully monitored during test time so that they know that they are being watched.
Patricia

Hi Evelyn,
Separating students is a good practice to follow when students are testing. This certainly helps keep students out of trouble.
Patricia

To reduce cheating in the classroom I try to have students separate from eachother during their tests. This way they are not tempted to look at their neighbor's paper. I also remind students to put away all notes and textbooks before handing out the test.

I like to change how I give my tests based on the complexity of the skills being assessed. I request that some tests be taken individually. Other tests are assigned in pairs or collaborative groups. The stipulation is that the group must agree to live by the decision of the group before the answers are scored. This has worked very effectively for me as students get the opportunity to apply teamwork, interpersonal communication skills, a desire for excellence, and a chance to teach one another. The discussions are lively and challenging. I also like to give short answer tests, completed individually, to assess understanding and written communication skills of each individual student.

1. Changing seating arrangements.
2. Reasonable distance between seats.
3. Having 2 or more versions of the exam.
4. Standing at the back of the room where
observation is maximized.

Having several different tests is a great idea, I never thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion.

I mention that the test/exam/quiz is only an opportunity to show what each student knows and it helps me learn more about myself and ways I can help them. They seem to get it and give their best. Although I sometimes see the exact wrong answer on several student's answer sheets. These students usually sit in this area of the class. When seperated they all have individual answers and do well. I think their cheating stems from a lack of self confidence. What are your thoughts Patricia?

Hi.I think that we can talk with them, but is important to follow all the rules to prevent cheating.
Ms Melendrez.

I make 3-4 different sets of tests. And if it was announced to them that they cannot take a break during a test, and they still do, their test is considered done.

ONE WAY FOR ME TO REDUCE CHEATING IN MY CLASS IS TO MAKE 3 SETS OF THE EXAMINATION.MAKING SURE THEY ONLY HAVE THEIR PEN AND PAPER OUT,ANY OTHER OBJECTS ARE PROHIBITED. SO FAR IT HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE IN KEEPING MY STUDENTS FROM CHEATING IN CLASS...

Hi Rhonda,
Issuing different versions of a test is a smart idea to prevent cheating.
Patricia

I hand out at least three versions of the test

I make several versions of all of my tests. The same information is evaluated in each one, they are just laid out differently. Even as simple as changing the order of the questions is enough to deter the cheater.

Hi Charlene,
This practice works well! You have a good view of the overall room.
Patricia

Hi Danielle,
It makes a different presence when you are on your feet while students are testing. Students are less likely to cheat when you stand and circulate the room.
Patricia

Hi Scott,
When students know that you are paying attention they are much less likely to cheat. We must have eyes like hawks during testing time.
