silent students

I think that establishing a connection with silent students helps them to open up and start networking. Teachers must find out where that connection may exists and pursue it until connected.

In the career college setting, I've found that most silent students eventually begin participating more. I make a general statement about participation being part of their grade, so maybe that's a motivator. In addition, I immediately make a positive remark about whatever comment was made by a student. I think that helps build confidence.

Hi Sarah,
Definitely! It is certainly work in progress. Some students really don't want to deal with you. All you can do is try to build a rapport with students.

sometimes it can be hard dealing with shy students.

Hi Mildred,
Connection is key! Silent students will come out of their shell if they feel they have a rapport with you.
