To keep the instructor calm and prepared for class and to keep the students from doubting the instructor. It would show up in the classroom management for all to see.

Hi Karen,
I concur! It is the instructor's responsibility to produce an environment for effective learning to take place.

Class management will enhance the planning that each instructor has prepared for each class. Without the management of the classroom, planning is not going to be effective. Therefore, management is the key to effective learning and effective delivery of the planning each instructor has prepared for in advance of each class.

Always being prepared for your class showes you are on top of your game and your students will strive to stay on track as well. It shows them that they have a true professional as there teacher.

Students look to you as an instructor for various expectations, one being actually managing there time(students) they want to know what they are going to do and what is expected of them every day. Syllabus helps in this regard but the student also likes to hear it from the instructor. You can discuss it with the class in more depth to ease there frustration and make it sound like more fun than just reading what is expected.

Classroom management is essential to any learning environment because the Instructor sets the tone for the remainder of the course. Students are given expectations on the first day so they know what is expected of them.

Having organized and interactive lectures and activities seem to help manage the class. Sometimes the students get carried away and you have to rein them in. Having wrap up discussions is a good way to return the class to the point of the activity.

Hi Faydren,
The instructor must be engaging. Adult learners want to be engaged. Also having a variety of teaching methods helps reach/engage students aas well.

A large part of classroom management is creating engaging lessons that cater to students' learning styles and cognitive abilities. Most adult learners have made the conscious, authentic choice to advance their education and want to succeed. Helping them to do so will help deter disruptions.

Without classroom management the students begin to get used to an atmosphere of chaos. When the student gets into the real world they are unprepared for the professional expectations that most employers have.

i agree if you dont students arent learning and your not doing your job

Hi Pamela,
You got it! As the instructor, we must create an environment for effective learning to take place.

Patricia Scales

It sets the tone for the class. It shows the students you are organized, interested, and engaged in their educational process.

Hi Stephen Dable,
What a great atmosphere to create for your students. You produce and atmoshpere that is welcoming and great way to encourage bonding. I am sure your students appreciate yuor thoughtfulness. Most importantly what a super atmosphere for effective learning to take place.

Each class has its own personality. It is important to identify those individuals who can bring strength to your teaching objectives. Allow them to set a positive direction for the class. Students support that which they create. We are all in this together.

For night classes (6 to 11 PM) I always have coffee, tea and cookies available. This creates a warmer classroom atmosphere. Classes tend to spend most of their break time interacting with each other on projects for my class or other school projects. This allows me to add addition information about assignments in a different setting.

Classroom management provides the fundamental environment for you to communicate your lessons and for the students to learn your curriculum. Classroom management provides the boundaries required to deliver course requirements such as classroom assignments, homework requirements, lab procedures and reporting, etc.. Good classroom management provides a quality content delivery base.

However, although the students know the boundaries of the class, some of them are always trying to push those boundaries as they feel it does not pertain to them.

Hi Jamie,
It is the instructor's responsibility to produce an environment that is conducive for effective learning to take place. Even adult students need and want structure.

Patricia Scales

Class management is critical to have structure in the class. Structure is vital to have control in your classroom and to keep students constantly engaged. We want to have consistency in learning.

Hello Everyone,

As an instructor, it is our responsibility to our students to ensure they receive the education they want/need.

We accomplish this by keeping the class structure with the syllabus provided to our students on the first night of class. I view the syllabus as a contract between the student and instructor, and is not a one way street. Instructors need to ensure that what they present the students in the syllabus is what they are delivering in the classroom.
