I am a nursing instructor I have the option of dressing in casual dress or I can wear a unifrom. I choose to wear a uniform simply because I want to set an example of professional image and this is exactly how I expect my students to dress.

Hi Katrena,
You are right! You should never stray from being a professional at all times. Students watch our every move.

Hi Betty,
Students really do want an instructor who leads by example. Students look up to their instructors.

Hi Renato,
Being friendly with students is okay, the problem comes whenever you become their friend.

All teachers need to maintain a professional image so that the students will respect instructor. Teachers should always dress and act professionally. We are one of the role models the students have to go by to get ready for the work force.

Maintaining a professional image is am important part of classroom management because one person needs to be the leader in the classroom and that is the teacher. If we allow the students to be the leaders than learning will not be as successful.

We should always dress professionally and act in a manner that the students will respect each of us as professionals.
I always try to give the students a little extra treat each quarter so that they have something to look forward to. The students seem to really appreciate my efforts.

It maintains the professional boundaries and keeps the instructor out of trouble. When those lines are blurred then the perception of teacher/student relationship may lead to many more difficulties. Bias or immoral behavior.

I always strive to maintain a professional rapport and image around my students to set an example of the professionalism that is expected in the Dental Field.

As a teacher you must maintain a professional image because you are the role model for your students. Your clothing should be career appropriate, as well as hair, nails, and makeup. We are preparing these students for the job force. In our area there are many people applying for the same job . . . So, our students need to be a cut above the others.

you want tp practice what you preach.teach rhem by showing students the correct way to conduct themseleves

Hi David,
Real life experiences are very exciting to share with students, but as mentioned keep the names out of it whenever it pertains to medical. Students want to and need to hear about personal stories that are applicable to the lesson.

Hi Thomas,
I live by the moto in my classroom,"Strictly Business".

Sometimes being in charged can be severly hampered by the dual relationship created by having students as buddies.

Using medical events from one's own family as instruction examples can be full of relevant details and interesting, but change the names and relationships.

Instructors must be professional at all times even at school activities and out in the community. If the instructors act professionally at all times the students will respect the teachers therefore there will be very little if any class management issues.

Students want an instructor who teaches the academic material using all the learning styles. Students want to respect their instructors not be friends with them.

By coming to class prepared, organized, and ready to present the lesson the students will respect you for your knowledge and expertise. The students are paying for their education therefore they want a lesson presented well with activities that appeal to all the learning styles.

I think getting too friendly with students takes away your role as the instructor. Students may begin to see you as their buddy and not their instructor.
