Richard,
Thanks for sharing, I am sure most agree with this as well.

nutisha,
Kindness will often help to overcome many barriers that are in the classroom and workplace.

Jennifer,
Common sense is hard to define with what is common to each person. What is common to one is not necessarily common to another, but i think most would agree with you.

Stephanie,
Dependability is one that most people identify.

I think integrity is the most important. If you have integrity, the you will be in a good position to take care of and develop the other soft skills.

A smile is a very important soft skill for me and meeting a nice smile makes you feel comfortable.

Keep in mind we are talking about in any workplace, not just teaching. So I think the most important soft skill in the workplace is managing your emotions.

i think the most important soft skill is the dependability of an individual. If they cant show up and be reliable then you will not be able to work on any other skills. when they are present then you can work and develope them into the employee that you need them to be.

I think having a positive attitude, managing your emotions and having an ability to effectively communicate are the most important soft sills to possess. It makes life easier when it comes to dealing with others. I think that job satisfaction goes up as well when you have mastered some soft skills.

I think all the soft skills are important, but I feel common sense is a little more important. If people would use their heads we would avoid a lot of miscommunication and conflict.

Dependability is so important - students are often coming from chaotic situations and that certainty of the instructor's presence and the reliability of their instruction and feedback is so important to them. The instructor is a model for the types of behaviors we want our students to exhbit in the workplace.

Customer service across the board is very important since this is hard to find at any workplace. It is important to teach students when trying to find jobs once they are finished with the program.

The most important soft skills for me are following up on details. It the forgotten details that eventually show up creating problems.

Having a healthy mental attitude that includes being positive and treating others how they would like to be treated.

Dependability is huge in the work place. Knowing that your team workers are there when needed enables the process to go full circle.

I also feel the most important skills in our workplace are life skills. Many students show up at school and are years behind in their developement of interpersonal skills. They have NOT been shown how to deal with constructive criticism, cannot self motivate, are poor listeners, do not manage time well, play on the internet and aimlessly text message, etc. These skills should have been taught to them by their parents and perhaps training of parents should be a college course.

Richard ,
I love it. Keep up the good work.
Philip Campbell

Scott,
Being dependable will help you to gain trust from others.
Philip Campbell

Rekha,
That is important, and one that many struggle with.
Philip Campbell

Jennifer,
This kind of feedback is important, and something you should share with the students.
Philip Campbell

aLL are important, but at the end of the day you are role models to your students. I think to be highly respected, being the example is one of the top things that is very important.

I agree with Aaron. A student may have perfect technique, but if that student doesn't have the life skills - being dependable, on time, willing to learn more, willing to listen and follow directions, take critique and willing to use their common sense - it will be very difficult for them to succeed in their careers. The good soft skills are what make an employer forgive mistakes etc and also value an employee. They are also the kinds of skills that make someone successful if they start their own business. So I try to reinforce those skills in my classroom because I know they will be as valuable as good technique when my students graduate.
