In my opinion ONE of the most important soft skills would be dependability, the ability to be dependable is extremely important in todays classroom as all of our students are looking to us not only to teach them the knowledge they need, but they are also looking at us to gain a level of professionalism for when they graduate and move on into the real world to begin their own careers. And that would be the reason I say dependability.
I think one of the most important soft skills is conflict resolution and the ability to manage anger - a negative emotion. I’ve noticed in myself and in many coworkers a natural or instinctive defense response to conflicts or criticism. Whether it be changes in policy or a procedure, or a critique of a method an instructor uses for managing his classroom, we seem to often have an inherent response to become defensive, and when pressed we sometimes allow it to build into anger and resentment. I think it's important that we all recognize that a constructive critique from an outside perspective may offer insight that we are unable to see ourselves, and maybe a compromise, or willingness to try a new method may work better. We sometimes get defensive when people come in and change our little world, and that can prevent us from recognizing that some of these changes may be for the better.
Ability to get along tactfully, should be the primary soft skill for success in any workplace.
You are correct. Leading by example can be one of the best practices in using and teaching soft skills.
I don't think there is any one thing more important than any other.Communication, patience, understanding. When we display these attributes to our students, they see a model for themselves.
I also think common sense is very important because it certainly is related to all of the other skills. If your behavior is not based on common sense, it will be difficult to portray the soft skills that you need for the interaction.
I believe that having empathy for your students is a very important soft skill. If we can put ourselves in the students' position we are better able to understand their behavior. All of the soft skills are important in a learning environment.
We have regular advisory board meetings with professionsals in the field we teach. They talk a lot about the importance of the student to communicate. We can teach them the "hard" skills all dy long but if they do not have the skills to communicate with patients, co-workers, employers, etc they are not capable professionals.
BEING AVAILABLE TO THEM IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT FOR SUPPORT AS WELL AS GIVING GOOD CRITISISM.
YES WE SHOULD E PREAPARED, LOOK AND DRESS APPROPRIATELY AND BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AS WE ARE DISCUSSING SUBJECTS IN CLASS.
THIS IS CORRECT THERE ARE MANY SOFT SKILLS THAT NEED TO BE USED ON A DAILY BASIS. lISTENING SKILLS ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND DEPENDABILITY.
TRYING TO DISCUSS WITH MY STUDENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF HOMEWORK AND STUDY STRUCTURE TO ENABLE THEM TO COME TO CLASS PREPARED FOR THE EXAMS
I believe managing you positive attitude and emotions under control, and manage your stress in very important in work place.
I think Common sense is the most important one because it covrs all the other skills
I think empathy is number 1. if you cannot put yourself in someone's shoes, you are less likely to believe in them and vice verse.
Amy,
Yes, very important. Keep in mind that communication is a two way street. As much as we try to communicate others need to want to receive it.

Debra,
I believe many people probably have as hard of a time trying to pick out one or two that are important. Everyone most likely agrees that all are important.

Communication, interpersonal, listening.... there are so many soft skills that are important
If I had to choose one skill as the most important it would be communication.
This is central to effectiveness and efficiency with all of the other skills
I believe the most important soft skills for successd in the workplace include the following
integrity, positive attitude, team player, dependability, good communication and emotional intelligence.
