Can an individual represent characteristiscs of multiple generations?
I think we are a composit of exposures to different generational cohorts and we can pick and choose characteristics that may or may not apply to our strategies toward life. Any one agree?
I agree, I have to adapt to my environment every day my student range in age from boomers to gen- y, for the most part my boomers have more patients, while my y's want it right now. I have taken a little bit from each generation to help me grow professionally
Mischa,
and a key part of this is to try & treat everyone as people & individuals.

Completely agree! When reading about characteristics regarding Baby Boomers, I saw my life written out. Now I have Gen Y's in my house and I can see how their way of thinking has evolved from when my grandparents were growing up. I like to incorporate a little of all generations into my classroom as it makes a more well-rounded person as a whole.
Jennifer,
this is a prime example of the generations coming into conflict & an excellent example of how we have to be flexible in this regard.

I too have been around this in my life. One example would be when I lived in the mountains and campers would come to church and the Monsenior (sp?) would repremand the parishoners for wearing that attire. Once a new younger priest came to the church he said I do not care what you wear I just want to see your faces. My veteran generation parents were not happy with this. But over time they came around.
For the most part u have to adapt yourself to your enviroment and the personalities u are around
Rebecca,
great point & yes, much of what we see or observe can be cultural or regional as well. This is why we must be very careful regarding making too many generalizations.

I was thinking that also it could be regional. For example: when I moved to Arizona I was shocked that people would go to a very nice restaurant dressed shorts. It all made perfect sense to me after I lived through my first summer of 110 degrees for a 110 days.
I was asking around, since I found the reading and the logic behind each group very interesting. I think we can manifest different attitudes toward life not based on the X or Y or baby boomers, ..., based on what we see in other individuals strategies negaitve or positive toward life. Let's say, I am not gonna do certain things because my mom did or my grandma did, or on the other hand, I am going to do certain things because that is how mom did and it worked!
