gen diff

Even teaching the same course repetitively is different every time, isn't it?it is certinally not cookie cutter The first couple of class sessions you have to 'read' the class to really do the best possible job.

I agree it can be challenging at times but it is rewarding to see the different groups work as a group and all get it.

I am guilty as well of not considering the generational differences and how it affects their learning styles. I routinely assign a "Case Study" project for one of my didactic courses that requires the students to research and present to the class. Some of the older Baby Boomers would choose poster boards to present their visual aids instead of a power point. I am realizing that this has much more to do with their generational upbringing rather than abilities.

Jill,
and now you have an opportunity to really help these different generational learners who may be having struggles similar to this guy's.

TO be honest, I hadn't thought about generational differences. I teach a class with a wide age range, and I hadn't sat back and noticed the differences. For example, this term, a student, who is likely in his 60's is having a tough time with a power point. I, being in the Gen X generation, was a bit frustrated... I'm not realizing this wasn't fair of me!

Francis,
this is a great point, it also helps us to stay on our toes professionally & ensure that we are bringing our "A game" everyday.

Its challenging and fun to see a class full of students from gen Y to boomers. Incorporating various styles of teaching to accomodate everyone in the room not only makes it a challenge but unique at times.
