styles
Very interesting with the different styles of learning. Will we ever see the older styles though in todays times???
I don't think it matters where they are taking notes as long as they are. It shows a level of involvement and dedication as well as provides another chance for their brain to see it in a different way
I do not think it will be too much longer when ipads and laptops are replaced by the smart phone. Technology is increasing exponentially almost to the point where if you can think it, you can build it. The laptop and tablet will soon go the way of the home phone and the VCR. Being tech savvy is a must for instructors and students as well. Teachers must be willing to roll with technology or it will roll over them.
Mike,
I agree that no phones, but the other devices. Sure they can potentially surf the web, but I think this is maybe less a temptation than texting.

I'm moving myself to trying to take notes on a devise. I've used a light scrip pen. It takes notes on a special paper and at the same time records what is said during the lecture. The best part is that afterwards you can go back and touch your notes with the pen and it will start playing the recording from that point in the lecture. I think this would be a great tool for the Gen Yers.I am also finding some great apps to take notes on as well. So yes a devise would be acceptable, however I think no iPhones. Just tablets and laptops.
Mike,
this is an excellent point. Does it matter if the student takes notes on paper or on a device?

I believe that the past styles will come back in technological forms. Power point is being replaces by prezi and iMovies made on smart phones. Students are taking notes on iPads and iPhones. Instead of presenting information once in class, lessons are being provided on portals for review. The older styles are tried and true just modified for today's learner.
Today teaching is a combination of everything. The past and present generations.
