understanding
Since my classroom contains all gernerqations I do try to meet their needs with not only technology, such as Ipad but also having to hand out a printed syllabus. I am a Gen X'er and my son a Gen "Y'.
I am the same ion My class Ihave all generation for the olders people its better to ive them hand out and no computer work
I also have a mix of generations in my class so I find that handouts as well as computer knowledge helps all.
I too get a mixed group of students and what works for me is to keep everything in check and keep things realistic. I teach culinary arts and I always ask them to think of the food item they are working with (Raw stage) and think things through to the (Finished stage)before they attempt to cook it their way. The ones that practice this usually produces some quality meals that is worth paying for. The ones who thinks that all they have to do is cook it, usually produces food of poor quality and at this point I make taste it and give me feedback of why they do or do not like it. I call it lessons learned.......
Often times there will be at least two decades between my youngest and oldest student. I have observed when they interact in groups for projects and discussions they are able to learn from each other via different learning methods and life experience.
The common thread to all the generations is their need to understand the relevance of the lessons and their correlation to their chosen career. I give examples of their usage and explain how these lessons will apply in the business world they are educating themselves for.
I also try to incorporate all generations in my classroom
