Gen Y learners
What I especially like about Gen Y learners is their eagerness to learn and their ability to do that in multiple forums.
Kathryn,
thank you so much for your post & this tremendous reminder. We are all prone to being lazy, we need to help these students live up to their potential.

I like teaching Gen Y learners as well. I would identify myself as a member of GenX/GenY, taking attributes from both. As far as students being "lazy" as said in another post on this thread, I think students need to be challenged out of their lazy habits. All students can be lazy, regardless of their generational cohort. All students need to be challenged out of their comfort zones. Some students are comfortable being lazy, some are comfortable in technology. I think this course has been pretty clear that we need to use multiple modes of delivery to reach all needs of students and challenge all students as well.
Generation-Y learners are a fun bunch. I enjoy their openness to new ideas and approaches to life dilemmas. What I do try to discourage from them is their constant tendency to perpetually consult anyone/everyone about what should be done for this or that in their life through social media. I encourage them to be independent thinkers and to wean themselves off this insatiable appetite for instant justification or pursuit of unconditional consensus.
As a baby boomer it's a lot of fun keep up with teaching the Gen Y student
Some of this generation are eager to learn but hey are lazy, they want the information to be feeded to them with a silver spoon. They are so use to technology and they don't want to work hard for what they want. I think this generation have lack of responsabilities.
Scott,
I agree. I think this is where we can acknowledge the value of technology to our students & then show them other ways of doing things & the value of unplugging from time to time.

It would be nice to see the Y generation not rely solely on tech advances.
Although I am not included in Gen Y, I find I am more productive and content mulittasking!
Kathryn,
I agree that this is one of the positives of this generation. While they do love their technology, there seems to be a greater flexibility & willingness to try different learning methods & situations.
