I am a clinical instructor so instant feedback in this arena is a little different than with didactic courses. I do notice the Gen Y students asking frequently how they are doing. In clinic there is a time and place for feedback. In the past I have found it frustrating being asked for feedback frequently. This helps me understand why some students are focused on feedback. I have to tell them we can discuss feedback at the end of clinic because sometimes it is not appropriate to talk about performance in front of a patient.

The trick is to stay on top of it all. But, yes, quick and articulated feedback is definitely facilitated through the use of an online grading system.

We use an online grades at the schools where I currently teach. I agree that it helps to provide some very quick feedback for the students. It takes some time to set everything up for all of your assignments ahead of time but it saves time as you go along in the the term and especially for computing midterm and final grades.
