The Persistent GenYer

I will no longer consider the persisent GenYer as an over anxious achiever. After taking this course, I realize that GenYers want and yearn for immediate feedback. I often thought, please give me one full class period to return a test or an assignment. Now, I am going to make an extra effort to return grades the same day, when possible. I now view this persistence in a different and more positive manner.

Students started asking me for their grade progress a few years ago, and I thought to myself, "yeh they should know, I would want to know". so now when a students asks what their current grade is I have them come to my computer and show them. When they see their grade they are never surprised, they know if they are doing well or not before they even see the grade ;)

I agree. Instructors from other generations may not understand this, but it is a reality to those in Generation Y that they can and should receive immediate feedback. I know that my campus has really pushed to make changes in a way that instructors will provide such timely feedback. It makes sense!

Shawna,
yes, it really has become the expectation for many reasons & one of those being a consistent pressure to perform.
