Linked In

I'm so glad you listed this as a way for students to connect. I have found it is a great resource as many of my students need to network out for their future career. It is also very helpful with using the groups to let them have more insight into the profession.

Michael ,
this is great. LinkedIn can also be used to keep tabs on graduates & then to pull gainful employment information & data for reporting.

Yes, As the job market becomes more competitive students are reconsidering social networks and what he or she wants the network to know about them. I also have found past students, co-worker that still reach out to one another. This also allows the student to network professionally.

I also introduced students to linked in and many of them created and account. Soon after, several students mentioned to me in class that they found and friend who was on linked in and they had a great job and a promotion.

I personally use linked in to network and look for past co-workers. I like to stay in touch.

Vatina,
I agree & I have many students (or former students) now connecting with me through this & giving me endorsements & allowing me to be a reference for them if needed.

I find that LinkedIn changes the view of social networking. I witness that once a student takes his or her career seriously, they want to join this social network. However, they compare other social networks and find that this professional network makes them become more professional especially when looking for employement.

I have only heard of LinkedIn but never used it. Based on the comments I am seeing here I intend to look into it in the near future.

I think this is a good idea for many of us. For me, I view social networking as a colossal waste of time. I realize that dates me terribly, and I'm trying to use the media and catch up. But, after reading the comments other instructors have made about cheating, I think I'm going to proceed carefully.

Jackie,
I like to use it as an assignment as it forces the students to engage with the tool & then they really see the value.

I discuss LinkedIn in many of my management classes. I love the idea of creating it as an assignment. That is now on my to do list!

Chad,
I highly recommend looking into this resource. It really is a great tool.

I am not that familiar with Linked In, I will not only push this resource down to the students, I will also use this for my own personal benefit.

Brenda,
I'm glad to hear that you will. I highly recommend LinkedIn as it's a professional site for professional purposes.

I have not spent as much time on Linked In as I would like to. I have many request to join groups, and now will take the time to explore.

Jennifer,
I do think it's important that we make sites like this part of our coursework to help our students network for the future.
