Smart Phone as a Preliminary Classroom Research Tool

It is possible for a student to help support a case they are making for a topic by supporting it with some preliminary information from the web using their smart phones.

There are times when students fail to even look up at the professor because they are so used to looking down at their phone. They are comfortable and have that muscle memory of always looking down.

most of the time when on a cell phone in class, students aren't researching class subject matter, it also gives the student an opportunity to photograph tests, I'm an instructor at a technical school and cell phones are not allowed to be turned on in class, the student notifies the instructor of an expected call and he/she takes it in the hall way, or during break or lunch

There is a place for using the phone in class for research...but there are many times that students are not focused on the class due to being focused on their devices.

I agree . I am going to see if there are ways I can use it to help spur more classroom participation.
