EDD 117 Course
At our college campus we provide education to all different generation of students, especially the generation "Y" students. The instructors here are totally active with this generation and are always available to engage with the learning process when asked to do so.
We have found that all the different generation of students starting from the generation "Veteran" groups and ending with the generation "Y" groups are eager to learn and have accepted our strategies in critical care development.
We are a team and have many activities to engage our students.
I find that understanding my student's generation, their past educational experiences, provides me a focus on the directions to take when I am teaching in the classroom.
This ED 117 was an excellent course and I highly recommend it to other instructors out there.
This course has given me a positive direction and I can't wait to use some of the information I learned with my students.
What did you think of this course?
I also work in this type of school teaching a mostly hands-on type of course ,gen y learners can be more of a challenge because of the lack of real world experience in life not in some cyber fantasy world.
I agree. Even though I have two Gen Y children, it still helped to understand where they are coming from.
Lan,
it is important that we understand the variety & diversity that is present within our classes.

This is a great coarse. It help me understanding the differents generations, and different learning styles for them.
Albert,
glad it was helpful & yes, the more variety we can use the better we can reach all generations.

I couldn't agree more! I teach culinary arts and I have seen our student population change significantly!!
We have a much more diverse age group now than ever before. It's not uncommon for an 18 year old to be sitting next to a 60 year old in the same class.
This class has been very helpful in understanding and fulfilling the needs of ALL my students!

My thoughts on this course mainly consist of my deeper understanding of the many subtle nuances that I instinctively use in my instruction actually have merit and methodologies behind them!
It's one thing to treat learners as a group but it's so much more rewarding when one realizes that simply because of a generational difference we can only do better in there learning time.
I feel this was a very usful course, it shows the differents in generations and the way they thing and learn.
Paul,
glad it was helpful & you definitely have a challenging, yet rewarding position as you work with such a generationally diverse group.

I work as an instructor at a technical school. We have students right out of high school, military veterans, and older students seeking a career change. This course has helped me to better understand the needs of students of different generations.
I think it was a great course. Working in a college setting, we see students straight from high school up to grand-parents. It is our duty to know how to hone in to the different generations and break it down for everyone to understand. Luckily, I have been to live through a few generations and can talk about things my older students experienced and twist it so that the younger students understand and vice versa.
That is what I love about this wonderful thing called “LIFEâ€.
