Internships are a great experience for students that will give them the confidence they need for their skills
There is definitely a difference between having an intern, where they just do busy tasks; and having an intern that is brought in and is a part of the team-respected/taught/modeled for/etc. The intern host has a responsibility to the intern to provide them with a rewarding experience, one in which the student has takeaways and is allowed to grow. The intern has a responsibility to the site and host to be professional, prompt, and part of the team as well. This partnership needs to be explicitly laid out from the beginning, in order for all parties to benefit from an internship program.
I really embrace the stated key objective " help student's develop professional behaviors". This is very important in advancing one's career and being viewed as a professional in the work environment.
Internships that match the educational experience enhance the graduates ease into the workforce by exposing them to the corporate world of: meetings, professional dress, time management, the typical work day and work week schedule...in other words the reality of how their education will be implemented.
A good internship lasts 10-12 weeks to give the student a good idea what it's really like to work in that area.
Engaging students in a practical situations and developing their behavior and reactions.
Internships are a wonderful erxperience as I stated in the prior forum. I will help students to utilize time management skills, address staff in a professional manner, dress in a professional manner and find a variety of different opportunities to master. Thus, when the students actually have a job they will be more confident in their skills.
I have learned that internship programs are designed to provide the intern with practical experience, thus giving them hands on training that bolster their efforts. The organization is then in turn provided with a well-educated worker who knows the firm and is able to hit the ground running on day one. Therefore, a temporary job post becomes a permanent one. I intend to apply this knowledge to the future world of nursing as I continue to train and recommend future nurses for internships. As I go into the clinical setting and see how the various nurses have grown and are now taking charge of their job performance, it lets me know things the internship is working.
I have learned the importance to help students develop professsional behaviors.
Learning about the responsibilities and expectations of the position is very important and internships give the student the ability to do so with less pressure as they aclimate to the company and people they are going to be working with. This is one of the advantages of intership.

Defining clear roles and responsibilities is vital to a successful internship.
It's important to establish a good rubric fo rthe employees at eh intership site to evaluate the student. Work with the site supervisors to ensure the student is working towards meeting the program goals and not just being jused for grunt work.
Internships will help kids with soft skills as well as career knowledge. It is important the supervisor be involved with the students.
Internships require a great deal of responsibility as they are similar to preceptorships. It provides people with the opportunity to learn the company or industry. It also requires an great deal of supervision while the enrollees are learning.
These job internships should help students with basic job skills and overall work habits.
I have gone an extra mile to search for intern sites for our students as a gateway to future employments.
