I tried the crossword as an openbook quiz and it worked great.
I always did a crossword puzzle as an extra credit in my class, they can use their textbook, the library or the internet. Some students said that it was their first time going into the library.
I had not considered playing these word games. My students and I have tried jeopardy. I will look into trying these options and expand the activities for this class.

I have seen that the crossword puzzles are very effective for the independent learner and can be used for groups. When students have a hard time on a certain puzzle, I place them in groups to work together.
I have done the crossword puzzles and word searches as course activities and they are "fun" for the students while helping them to understand the material even more. They truly are an excellent way of preparing for quizzes and exams especially if they are vocabulary based.

My students love the word search activities and have stated that this is helping them spell. I enjoy having the class leave feeling good knowing that they have actually learned something. I try to make a race out of it and give bags of chips as a prize.
The activity that i liked best is the the secret identity, because it engages the students in learning the content that being delivered.

The course activities can also give information of your students recall and problem-solving ability.
My students find the crossword puzzles difficult. Some have expressed that they have never done them. With that said, they still work very diligently at them and I'm excited to say, the actually learn from them and it shows on their test scores.

Cross word exercises is a good learning tool (definitions and spellings). our text book also comes with a CD with lots of interactive and fun games and exercises.
I find the crossword puzzles are hard for some students, but word searches are a much better choice, although they are easier.. I sometimes incorporate word scramble and use paragraphs with senerios in them, which help them to thinka little harder to find the answer..
Generally I like the crossword puzzle and Flashcard.Also I use the labelling game...student pick and label parts of a skeleton for example and they compete amongst themselves. They love it.
