I have found many of my students really enjoy the crossword puzzles. I let them do them in small groups at the end of each class. The answers help create repetition and the students become more familiar with their textbook as I do it open book.
I like the suggestion of taping the memory board onto an easel or white board so the entire class can participate together. By making it a class wide review the teacher can make sure all the students stay focused on the activity.
Sandra, it does require critical thinking to solve the puzzles which is good practice for the real world.

By using crossword puzzles, you are encouraging student learning that is fun and also enabling them to use their critical thinking skills to learn medical terminology.
Tricia, having these available makes it reinforcing to those who finish early.

I use these for fillers in my classes. If someone gets done with a test early then they can work on them.

At our facility at certain we will offer in-house bucks and at that time I will play Medical Terminology Jeopardy, where I will set up categories for each systems and the more money that is offered the harder the question will be. The students really enjoy being able to earns something for their hard work. I've never received an negative vibe from doing this activity.

I have not used crossword puzzles or word searches before. These were really great ideas and I plan to try them in the future. What I have used in the past is coloring projects for anatomy and physiology and I know that the students have enjoyed them.
Patricia, this sounds like a great strategy to involve students with a new twist. Thanks for sharing it!

I do not teach MED Term directly but all of these ideas are great for my Medical Assisting students
Martin, it is smart to use whatever software resources you have for your instructors. Thanks for your feedback.

Although I can see where this would be helpful to a lot of instructors in this college, I will not be implementing any of it because of the nature of my class. I did, however, find the material quite interesting. It will be useful to many of the other instructors taking this course from our college and I will be happy to help them find some of the software to make it easier.
Although a person could make their own puzzles, that is very time consuming and I will recommend using the available softwares.
Mary, I'm so glad you had positive results with the first activity idea you used. I hope you try many more!

The activity that I find very interactive is the make me a match cards. I'm teaching a class full of students that love games and love to interact with each other. So, I'll try this game to see how it goes over with them. I suspect they'll love it! I did try the matching game last week and they loved the game! They did very well and asked if they could play it several times!!!
Jeanne,if it helps them to learn and do better on their tests, that is a great investment of their time.
