I have and still use old hang man. It still works.
Julie, this is an excellent hands on method to teach and assess knowledge of the bones.
Michele Deck
Instead of using post-it notes, I typed out all of the bones, printed them off, cut them out, and then taped the ends. I'll have the skeleton next to my desk and the printed out bones taped on my desk. A volunteer can come up at anytime to see how fast they can tape all the labels onto the skeleton. It's pretty fun, the other students get involved by giving hints. When its all done, I'll go and correct the placement and usually everyone gets a big laugh when the patella is on the temporal bone. :)
Popcorn that is where I write a term on the board and the last person to answer picks the next person to answer the next term
Cynthia, I like this approach. So many students have trouble with correct spelling of terminiology.
Michele Deck
Amanda, I am glad you like beat the clock. Try it soon with need to know content.
Michele Deck
I have given the students a list of words that are spelled wrong and then time them to see how many they can correct. I have also played the hangman game with med terms.
I have done a quiz show and jeopardy. My students really enjoy playing these games, but I think they will enjoy playing some of these
'new" games. One in particular that I'm excited about using is beat the clock. In this game they will have fun, and memorize while having fun!
Well, I havent created an activity yet, but I utilized a power point game that I obtained from the internet that ressembles the popular TV show, Jeopardy. I utilized nursing questions and answers and presented them to the students. The students would select and get points if correctly. Silmiar to the TV show..They enjoyed it...
Sarah , it is good to utilize all your resources.
Michele Deck
Alain, I have not tried the "sudden death" round, but will try it.
Michele Deck
Sandra, I like this name for it. A stick man is an anonymous one.
Michele Deck
The class calls it the stick man method. They enoy visual learning.
I've used a kind of a jeopardy type class game if i have a small class, with a prize of an extra 5 or 10 points to the winner. they all sit in the front table and i ask a question and first one who raises their hand answers and gets a score, the top two contestants battle it out on sudden death, first one who answers the questions and spells it correctly wins.
I have mainly used activities that come with the textbook CD. I have also used jeopardy, wheel of fortune, crossword puzzles. The post-it notes are a good idea and I will try to use that activity in the future.
Shawna, thanks for sharing your teaching ideas.

Students play pen the part for anatomy by taping the correct label on each others body. They receive a candy reward for telling the function.
Cindy, thank you for sharing your teaching idea with all of us.
Michele Deck
Amy, thank you for sharing a variety of methods you use to teach.

One of our students created a fishing game that was extremely creative. This was modeled after the childrens' game. They made poles and a pond where students would catch cards with med terms on them and then had to define them. Points were assigned to each card and students were put on teams for scoring purposes.
