I think it is important so that when you realize what kind of students you have, you can teach a more directed approach. Each classroom will have different ones, but with a small class you might only have one or two types and narrowing the techniques would help those students immensely.
It is important to know about different learning theories when planning classroom instruction so you can be an effective instructor. By recognizing students' learning styles, you can implement strategies and activities to enhance student learning of the subject. After being in the educational field for forty years, I have found that multiple learning styles exist in every class. Students would become frustrated with a multitude of teaching techniques. Putting up learning stations using a variety of teaching methods--visual, audio, tactile, etc. gave students the opportunity to hone in on their individual styles. This created a comfortable setting for them. It also allowed for peer tutoring without putting anyone on the spot.

If you have students who learn differently, you can adjust your teaching style individually. In this way, neither you nor your students will become frustrated.
