Jenifer,
You make a great point. Consistency from week to week and even from course to course makes learning easier for all beginners and "experts".
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Todd,
You are so right. I like your thoughts on an instructor's persona online. It is so important.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sandy ,
You are right. You have great insight about students not reading. I do think you are right about restating the objectives. You can also use discussion to reiterate certain important pieces of information. You might have students to record their opinions of things and post. Just a thought. . .
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Sandy ,
What a great post! You have great methods or communicating. I am so glad you shared them.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Perry,
What do you mean "you" students or instructor?
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Earl,
I agree with you. structure and methodology are so important. You do need to know what the LMS can or cannot do and what technology you have at your disposal.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Joseph,
What about them? I would like to know more.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Kristina,
You make great points. I like your virtual office hours! Also, you are right, the more you tie the content to real life application, the more they will work on the content, and respect you.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Carolyn,
Good for you! We have to make all students both in f2f and online that communication is not a course, it is what we do in the real world!
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
LaFanya ,
Great post! You have to take what you have. Communication is the key and that includes expectations of communication for all parties.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Beth,
You make a great point; just like in a f2f class, online courses have their own personality. No two online courses are alike.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Terry,
Good point. You do have to think about the characteristics of the students.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Annabel,
You make great points. I like the go to guide. You have to make students go there!
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Hello Brian,
Communicating the due dates and assignment deliveries multiple times is essential in the asynchronous environment. I find that students forget an assignment is due when I do not post and email several reminders. I often receive thank you emails from students that appreciate the reminders.
Warm Regards,
Annabel
Hello,
I believe that the following are two very important items to consider when establishing a pattern of teaching.
1. Establish the course expectations. This is the "go-to" guide for the classroom. It states how assignments are delivered, the late policy, incomplete policy, and course requirements.
2. Establish an open-line of communication. Students needs to feel that they can go to their instructor with questions. In addition, the instructor needs to clearly communicate information regarding the course and the material to the students. The effective communication will alleviate student anxiety.
Kimberly,
You have great strategies. I agree it is important to be consistent.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
A consistent and a similar structure from module to module.
Having established, weekly "office" hours so students can make contact synchronously for questions.
