The Procrastinator
Students who procrastinate run the risk of not completing their assignments on time. In turn, they may not receive the critical feedback needed for completing future assignments.
I tend to check in with students periodically throughout the week (I teach a 5-week class) to provide encourage and tips on staying on track.
Periodically, though, I still have students to wait until the weekly deadline to submit their work.
In addition to time management skills and continuous coaching, what other things have you seen work to get these procrastinators on task?

I totally agree with you.
I love your last comment.
These students seem to think they know more
than the instructor as well.
Sometimes the procrastinator thinks that we owe them an education and they deserve a passing grade no matter what. We have to be firm but fair with these students and explain to them that participation and completion of assignments on time is the key to passing the course. We can also use the work world as an example. Most employers have deadlines for projects or responses. We can remind them that in the real world procrastinating can get you terminated from a job!
I also have a few procrastinators and I also try to encourage them with the grading system. Where I teach online, every lesson needs to be completed within the a set time, and although many like to procrastinate, many of them do not like losing points (of course there are still those that will not complete the assignment on time :(
The procrastinator often wants concessions on work as well and believes that they can afford to procrastinate because their work is of higher quality then it actually is. They seem to have outsized views of themselves and their output.
