In an online environment, the student must feel supported by the instructor and the instructor will need to show competence and knowlecge in the subject matter being taught.

It is important to "connect" with students to make sure they understand the delivery system.

The need for a full understanding of my course management system.

I've been on the student side of the instructor/student LMS relationship for a much longer time than I've been on the instructor end of it.  I can relate to the learner frustrations when the users on either end are not familiar with the workings of the LMS.  It is something that we as educators using an online platform need to study and stay up with when it comes to learning technologies.  I appreciate the way the course identifies the importance of instilling competence in the software systems into your students at the onset.

Online Teaching Techniques --> Course Delivery

The success of the students will fall on my comprehension, resposibilities and my ability to navigate a CMS system in a course delivery format.

I feel like I need to be more prepared with written lesson plans for an on line course than with an inseat course.  I'be been teaching the same classes for over 10 years and can teach in a room of students with little preperation.  But on line, I feel like every minute needs to be planned in advance and accounted for.  It forces me to be more creative in keeping the student's attention.  And I can always bring those ideas into the inseat classroom as well.

Most of everything here, I am familiar with because I am currently a Distance Learning Professor and I have been  of teaching Distance Learning courses for over a decade.

I learned about the structure and content as well as the importance and forms of communication.

Having a well developed CMS with a variety of course content is important.  As is having great learning and technical support for students to feel comfortable.

Learning to the access points in the CMS is helpful

You have to understand the course content so you can best develop stratagies for teaching in an online format

I have learned that there are several keys to the success of e-leanring as an instructor, first you must be understand and know how to function all aspects of the CMS you are using.  Second we need to make sure that the class is developed in a consistant and organized form.  This will allow or easy manuovering and transition of the education material for the students.  The third i feel is really important is making sure the studnets have some training on how to use the system but also access to you and tech support when issues arise.

I think that one of the most important to recognize with online students is to make sure they feel connected to the course and the instructor.

Both learners and instructors have a responsibility to engage in the learning, ensure timely connection, and to learn how to use the system prior to starting the class.

STUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND COURSE DELIVERY CHECK LIST ESPECIALLY WITH NEW TEACHERS AND LERNERS

Instructors must understand content to establish course boundaries. I will apply it by becoming familiar with course delivery and strategies.

In an e-learning environment it is important for students to feel supported both with content and technology. The instructor has to be there for the student to assist the student in the e-learning environment. It is also important for the instructor to understand all components of the course being taught and to have an understanding of the CMS being used. As CMS can vary from school to school it is impotant to learn each CMS platform you would be working on. It is also important to make sure to set up a good communication system within the e-learning environment. One idea is to send out a welcome letter or welcome video introducing yourself to the class.

It is important to understand how all the various components of the online course function. It is also important to understand that, at times, with technology, things will sometimes go wrong.

It is important to have the class organized with an efficiant flow right off the bat.  This will ensure ease of use and help to avoid excess frustrations and difficulties for the students and especially for anyone new to the online environment or limited in technology experience.

I will be sure to structure my course from the start so students will understand my expectations. The structure for the course will be built around my current face to face syllabus, but modified to work within a digital environment.
