I must have a complete understanding o hoe to use the learning management system that is being used. This will ensure a well thought out and organized learning process for the student, keeping thier focus on the material at hand.

I have learned that there is a lot more than just sitting down or speaking by phone or emailing a student to provide information or assist them. This module went in depth how our interaction can be more effective and more valuable if we prepare in advance, pay more attention to our body language and delivery and avoid miscommunication and mistrust.
It's important for online instructors to not only familiarize themselves with the CMS but also the support systems in place at their specific institution. It's also important to be aware of all updates and policy/procedure changes.
Online learning has advanced considerably in the last few years. The fact that we have access to high levels of support means that as instructors we are equipped as necessary to handle students, questions, and content effectively.
I like the format of learning modules. The online information that instructors use can be different and still reach the same goal.
As each of us is individual and brings different backgrounds and experiences to the table, it is imperative we all understand the objectives, learning platform and assessment of each course. While I may require one thing from my students, my peer may require something different. I need to invite conversation and interaction with not only my students, but fellow peers in order to make the process as conducive to long-term retention and easy of maneuvering through the course.
It is important to learn what the educational portal provides as users can be interpreting it differently and we need to uniform in some of its basic approach
I learned about addtiional factors to consider when preparing for an online course. This includes, easy access to reference materrial and technical support.
I've learned that being in an online environment, the expectations are different than those of an in person learning environment. Students tend to be more comfortable and at ease believing that they have more support. I will take this information and use the tasks provided to ensure the students are getting everything they need for their online learning experience.

I learned that it is important to know the Course Management System well in order to support the online learner. Also, be familiar with course delivery techniques and strategies.
How the course is organized and structured and greatly influence student success.
I have used Canvas from both sides - as a student and now as an administrator. Canvas is a great tool and is almost a one-stop shop for many CMS and LMS requirements. The only thing I have not see OOTB is a chat module. That may or may not be necessary if the courses are completely asynchronous.
Teaching online learners are great as they have to learn the strategies remotely. Professional expertise of the instructor and motivation to learn the strategies are good tools to promote learning

This module teaches us about how to pose questions online and participate in discussion forums and online strategies for learning and feedback
It is important to engage students and not just expect them to be sponges passively absorbing material. Students must feel secure in knowing the course requirements, what's expected of them as learners and that they have support from their instructor and institution.
