An Instructor should know how the course is laid out and should also know how to solve techanical Problems that might arise
Seeing the format that the student sees, and being able to help them navigate because we are familiar with the system. Leading them through frustrations and keeping focused on the course itself, lots of possible distractions and "rabbit trails" if allowed. Time is critical to make all the deadlines and course requirements.
As an instructor, I need to not only be the subject matter expert but, I also need to understand the CMS through which the course is being delivered. It is important to keep the lines of communication between myself and the students open in order for them to be successful.
To help set students up for success with e-learning instructures should familiarize themselves with the orientation and structure of the course prior to the start of classes, along with have a clear objective of the course goals.
The implimentation of threaded discussions in the online environment gives the instructor and student to receove feedback.
I must ensure that I am completely familiar with the course delivery system, to enhance the online classroom experience for the students.
The online learning envirment can be more effectively navigated when instructors are not only familiar with the curriculm, but also the CMS, course structure, and the technical challenges that may face a learner.
I intend to inplement this information so that the learners with whom I associate will feel a great level of support and comfort. This will facilitate their learning.
Active learning is key! As far as instructor point of view being organized and understand the course time table is crucial. Timely organized content along with participation
I want to continue seeing the learning platforms that I use through the eyes of the student. In my subject area, there are rarely words, phrases, concepts, and activities that I am unfamiliar with or cannot fairly quickly makes sense of in context. This is not true of learners who often step into worlds in which almost all of the words phrases etc. etc, are foreign. The simplicity of presentation, the organization of material, and providing modules where small steps can be given focus and completed successfully can be beneficial.
It is very helpful to see larger frameworks and structures that are unseen or taken for granted. For example simply noting characteristics of online courses as having structural integrity, navigational simplicity, intellectual interaction, and active learn-centered learning is beneficial. Between the personal tendencies and /or the learning challenges within a given course, keeping these kinds of frameworks and structures in mind and in balance can require intentionality and purposefulness.
I should plan to complete the Student Orientation course (if available). Completion of this course will enable me to understand how students will be using the features of the CMS to complete the learning activities included in the course. It is vital to provide informative and constructive feedback in a timely manner, is of prime importance to your success as an online instructor.
Having familiarity with online course and knowing your support infrastructure is greatly benificial to me and my students online. Having a sturder course structrue is of great importance
I am new to on-line learning. So far this course has helped me to think differently with my delivery with my on-line course. I like that everything is layed out step-by-step. That is going to help me with being organized on the on-line platform.
There are many advantages that come with online learning. if yotu are open to new techniques of information exchange then e learning can be very successful. It is priority to have both the instructor and the learner fammiliar with the CMS inorder to have a positive experience. Failure of this working knowledge in the begining will ultimaltly affect the whole learning process.
Helping students understand and navigate through the structure of a given online course they are enrolled in is key to their sustained interest, participation and success.
Instructors need to understand how the CMS system works in order to help students. It's not enough just to know the subject matter, teachers need to provide students with technical support as well. I actually created a PowerPoint, that I email the day before the term starts, that reviews some important aspects of Canvas.
We need to provide as much upfront help as we can give to our students. Online courses can be very overwhelming and students need to have help many times when starting a course. so they don't become overhelmed or frustrated.
I have learned from this module that it is important for the instructor to be acquainted with course delivery techniques and strategies. The instructor should be familiar with compatibility of software and readily have contact information for tech support if needed. In addition, it is important for the e-learner to have support from both the instructor and tech support to minimize frustrations exacerbated by lack of computer expertise, malfunctioning of computer system, or dysfunction of the course management system.
I intend to apply these strategies by assuring software is compatible, resources are available, and tech support contact information is readily available.
This module reiterated how important it is know the components of the CMS and roles of the online instructior. The information also brought more awareness to the specifics of what an online instructor should pay close attention to, e.g. posting grades timely, giving students feedback in a reasonable amout of time, deadlines for submitting mid-term/final grades. It was good to review the charactertistics of a quality online course.
I will take into account that every student has different levels of learning and to reply to those needs with support for students and to comprehend the cms so that I will learn my schools directive to online teaching.
