Clarity in expectations is key. Clear, consistent messaging will help with scaffolding and lead to student success.
First to make sure to keep on top of the studnets that they stay on the topic of the course.
But the best line I read in past few seesions which helps me focus on the students needs:
"students need to focus on learning with the technology rather than learning from the technology."

I learned the importance of scaffolding in an online environment
I learned what scaffolding is, before reading this module I have never heard of the term scaffolding. I feel that this is what will make a difference in teaching, most of the time students will always ask, "when will I actually use this in my field that I plan on going into"? If you are able to relate to the topic you maybe be able to give an example of when you had to use the material that you are discussing, and by doing this you will then have the students interested and engaged in the topic.
Planning scaffolding support the: –Establishment of learning goals –Plan to achieve goals –Development of strategies for effective learning and management
Consistent language throughout the course is important, so that the student is not confused. Use the same procedures, instructions, and directions with each student and so on to faciliate consistency and ease for the student's LMS experience.
It is important to utilize all learning elements of a course. Learning elements enhance and reinforce learning objectives. Learning elements are not, however; a substitution for classroom instruction. Learning elements can encourage communication and participation. Both lend to the development of a strong online learning community which results in successful outcomes.
I learned that a Dynamic Syllabus is necessary and uses web-based tools for student collaboration. Also, I realized that student scaffolding, such as building on prior knowledge, is critical.
Scaffolding is prior knowledge the students have and this helps them with e-learning. Provide a well thought out syllabus with plenty of detail of the class, expectations and even the technology we have to have.
Communicate what you expect from your students in the syllabus, be clear!
I have gained a greater appreciation for the importance of a well designed syllabus. Scaffolding is an interesting and useful term for a good and well designed course. Also, the value of a well supported venues for student interaction is tremendously important for any course, but especially for the on-line learning environment.
Scaffolding requires the patient to use their prior knowledge. It is good to use this in you courses so you can see that your students are putting past knowledge to work.

I've learned that, since I'm not in the room with the students, I have to develop methods and systems to stay in touch and evaluate student performance that allow me to stay in touch and monitor progress online.
I didn't realize that the syllabus should be different for online vs. on ground learning. It makes sense now that you would want more detailed instruction and more information available for the online students because you aren't readily available to them when questions arise.
Effective communication is important and so is developing an e-community. But my key takeaway and what I will revist is the dynamic syllabus. I do like how you can link it to the course content.
I will take this information and apply what I have learned to my online discussions. I find that students are responding with"good job" or I agree which does not promote conversation or provide valuable feedback. I would also like to encourage thought and problem-solving skills")
I learned how the students and instructor interact in an online environment such as S2S; S2I; I2S. also the key to good online communication is good detailed instructions witnin the syllabus. Also use methods of being realistic, allow anonymity, give credit, encourage collaboration and participate to help encourage effective communication in an online environment.
