Rubrics for Social Networking
I really appreciated the information in regards to assessment and measurement of the process. I also was pleased with the example, Bloom's Taxonomy and Social Media Tools. I often wondered how you would evaluate whether or not the social networking sites were not only allowing students to connect with others but also gain additional knowledge and skills. Have you used this rubric? Do you find this the most effective? Do you find students struggle with it?

One method that I have used it to provide very detailed instructions with each assignments, provide students with the rubric that I will be using, and to also make postings that model the type responses I am hoping to see. As a former AVID elective teacher, these strategies that I began using with my middle school students still works beautifully with my college students!
Here is a great resource with sample questions to ask: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=7&ved=0CDUQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.utar.edu.my%2Ffegt%2Ffile%2FRevised_Blooms_Info.pdf&ei=JXB7VOm1KoergwTdyYLgDw&usg=AFQjCNG8K4WwmDS_fiYkLH0UabQ9R0tZaQ&bvm=bv.80642063,d.eXY
DAVID,
It is but you have to figure out how to set student expectation along with the matching your outcomes.

I'm also in agreement with both of you regarding Bloom's Taxonomy. Either the original 1950's version or the updated 1990's version provides a very useful rubric. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult to assess the higher than the lower levels.

Lesley,
I agree with you. It does work perfectly for determining your expectations for social media.

It seems like Bloom's is a perfect set up for a rubric, not only for social media but for participation in any online class. It covers all areas of assessment that are essential to help students succeed.
Leti ,
I haven't used it yet with social media but I do have colleagues that use rubrics with blogging within a course. Also she has her students use the rubrics also and assess their colleagues blogs. Students like it because it give them a road map on expectations.
