Dori,
Yes, and Rubistar will provide additional examples. I look at pre-made rubrics just to see if I can fine turn my criteria or if there are categories that I may have forgotten. We must review our rubrics and make sure they are measuring what we want them to measure. Thanks!
You can "Google" online rubrics to get some samples. Many will come up, then you can choose one that best fits your needs, and develop one similar to the sample to assess your assignment or work.
Patricia and Roger,
Thanks for continuing the conversation. The type of rubric you use is important. Thanks for bringing this up again.
Patricia,
I always ask others in the field if they will share their rubrics with me and also check the Internet to see if there are other criteria I may be missing. It's good to share with others. Thanks for your input.
Hi Roger,
It is good to see the number of rubrics that are available online. We need to know which type of rubrics we feel is the best thing for our particular school. We can even use bits and pieces from a couple of them to create a great rubrics.
Patricia
There is a lot of different resources on the web that can help with building a rubrics, but sometimes it is better for look for rubrics from other institutions and then create one by using that one to meet the needs of what you are trying to accomplish with the particular assignment or discussion.
You need to know which type of rubrics is required in order to meet what you are trying to accomplish and we also need to make sure that it consists of the proper contents that are needed in a good rubrics.
Patricia
Marie,
The more you use rubrics and the more you look at examples, the better you will become. It takes some time. Keep moving forward. You will be rewarded.
BRIGITTE ,
Great. Do look at some good examples and craft your own. Don't forget to review and revise your rubrics after you use them to make sure they are measuring what you epwant them to measure. Thanks.
Hello
I have never had to develop rubrics but I came acrossed some great websites that I saved to my favorites through this course. I will be looking to generate some rubrics through Rubricstar and the Rubric Gallery. I really appriciate you sharing these with us. I am sure I would be able to also google a few.
Roger
I didn't know of all the resources available either. If anything you could select rubrics that come close to what you are intending for your course and use them as a starting point to create what would work for you. When I developed my rubric, I really didn't know what a rubric was never mind how to develop one. These sites and this course will certainly help me as I work on improving mine.
Thanks for the info.
Craig,
I look at online rubric makers many times to get ideas for criteria and to think about different categories to use in rubrics. It is nice to see how others set up rubrics. Thanks for your input.
I've used RubiStar and searched the internet for rubric examples in the past. I'm looking forward to testing RCampus and looking at their repository of rubrics.
Unless you are using a rubric generator or are provided with a rubric by the institution or another instructor who has taught the class, you'll have to revise any rubric that you find online to fit the objectives and other specifics of your assignment. I've found that using Excel is the best way to develop my rubrics because I can easily edit them as needed and can save them as a PDF file to post for students.
Roshawna,
Yes, Google has so much to offer and so do many other resources. The key is to find what works for you and also helps the students. Thanks for your input.
James,
Great! I am thrilled you are learning through this process. We learn so much as we continue to get more information. Thanks for adding to the conversation.
Google would be a great suggestion to start.
That section of this course was very helpful--I had in fact tried www.ask.com and google but really got lost in the various/multiple sites listed--those specific sites were very helpful--I only wish I knew about them a few years ago when I started using rubrics--Dr Jim Young
DIANA ,
Thanks for sharing your experience and information. There are so many resources that we can access to help us devleop better more efficient rubrics.
Hi Dr. Kelly,
Amazingly, I am working on my Masters in Education in Teaching and Learning on-line with Ashford University. We have covered everything but on-line rubrics. When I began working for my employer, I thought that there had to be a better way to grade some of the content. I started to search the World Wide Web and got an enormous amount of resources for ideas. I found that each rubric was unique in its own way and I took ideas from several rubrics to create my own. The number of resources were too many to list on this post. If you would like specific Website information, let me know.
Tina,
Thanks for the Web links. It's always fun to find new things online. Nice job.
I never looked online for rubrics! There are a lot out there, and they are for a very wide variety of disciplines. There are blogs about rubrics too.
Many well-respected "brick and mortar" colleges have instructor resources for buidling rubrics.
Here is a good resource from LaSalle at:
http://wp.lasalle.edu/blog/how-to-build-a-good-rubric/
Middle States Commission on Higher Education. (2007). Student learning assessment: Options and resources. Philadelphia, PA. [The section on rubrics begins on page 42.]
This is a lot deeper topic than I originally thought!
