How do you relax at work

I try to just do the best job I can, no matter how hard the task

Mallory ,
My wife needs to stay dairy free and gluten free and she just as you has enjoyed looking at recipes. These activities can be very healthy for us as long as we practice them.

Scott,
Walking is an important exercise to clear the mind. Mother nature and our bodies have always enjoyed working together for clearing our minds. Just keep in mind this activity needs to be practiced because it works for you.

Other than taking walks, my absolute favorite little restbit thing that I do is look up recipes as well. I am a vegan who absolutly LOVES to cook and try new recipes, and the pleasure, fun and excitment of looking up a new recipe always perks me up :)

I like to sacrifice my lunch break by going on a walk outside. This gives me the opportunity to clear my head and evaluate whatever is stressing me out at work and how I can overcome it. I find it to be extremely helpful and relaxing.

Anita,

These are both good techniques. Everyone has different methods of releasing their emotions. As long as it is a healthy technique you should stay with it. Stress relief comes from a balance methodology. Each of us should practice good health habits, exercise, recreation, intellectual fun activity and spiritual rejuvenation.

When I am stressed out at work I take a short break and walk for 15 minutes and listen to music. I feel refreshed and then come back to finish the task.
I also talk to a sympathetic colleague and vent out my frustration and it seems to help many times.

Liza,
When you have people you can trust and can talk to reduce stress is a good way to step back. Your job is inherently stressful. Knowing your stress relief techniques are essential.

When situations at work become stressful, I have to stop and relax. That wasn't always easy to do in the past especially if I have an attending who is anxious to get into the OR so the patient can be surgicated. The breathing exercises explained in the webinars really do work. Sometime I have to tell myself to breath and relax because a mistake could be fatal. It also helps that I have chosen a few coworkers that I can rely on for support and a sympathetic ear. It also helped to develop a positive atmosphere (dynamic) that is infectious with other fellow employees.

Janet,
It is great to step back sometimes and regain your composure for work. The balance with exercise, healthy living, mental activity and spiritual rejuvenation helps to relax.

In my experience during my extremely busy work day I make sure I look outside my window all during the day. I put up a hummingbird feeder outside my window and watch the hummingbirds. That's what gets my attention to look outside. I also have a very short lunch so I at least walk around the block for 10 to 15 minutes. It helps me through the rest of the afternoon.

Denisse,
This is a growing trend in the United States for meditation. You are experiencing results from this so you definitely are doing it right. Be sure to keep a healthy life style and spiritual rejuvenation with your practice. Good for you to recognize what works for you.

I use exercise to help me reduce work and life related stresses. However, when I cant make it inot the gym, I usually use meditation and breathing techniques to help me reduce anxiety and stress. I find this to be efficient and very effective.

Brooke,
Good idea, your positive self talk is important in facing any challenges that would cause stress. My father used to say the sun will come up tomorrow. Your optimism helps others face the day.

Dr. Gary Carlson

That's a good philosophy that I agree with as well. I always try to outweigh the positive vs. the negative in any situation throughout the work day. I find that it's often easier to 'react' instantly but thinking clearly with that type of behavior always has major stressors, negative usually. So by trying to see the positive first, the situation usually seems less stressful.

Mark,
All employees need to be aware of the employer expectations of them. When people know what the are being measured on outcomes the job becomes more tolerable.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Having a true understanding about your job responsabilities and being trained very well in those areas makes your job more relaxing.

Amy,
It is always good to step back sometimes. Pastry always worked for me.

Dr. Gary Carlson

One of the things that I think works best for me is to do something that I enjoy even if it is just for 5 min. So sometimes it is walking away from my desk and researching a recipe (since I am a pastry chef). Many times it brings me away from the stress just enough to look at it more clearly.

Juan,
Exercise is always a good way to let off some steam. We need to have our own ways of handling stress. If it works and it is healthy you are on the right track.
