Walks have often helped me or driving around a few blocks if its too cold or raining. Popping in my favorite type of music or if its near Christmas chiming into a Christmas station. I absolutely love Christmas music. It immediately puts me in a great mood. My friends have often given me CDs of Christmas music. I wonder if they are trying to tell me something...
This is very true Dr. Carlson! I begin and end my day with exercise and those two times of the day are when I think my clearest. Its a great time for me to think and organize what I have to do that day, as well as a great way to end the day by reflecting and possibly planning for the next day.
I know that humor is the best medicine so I will usually try to find a joke that I can send to people halfway through the day or leave little notes on their desks or put them under things so when they pick up a file they have a funny note under it to make them smile for a few minutes. And people will do the same for me it makes the day go smoother and less stressful knowing that someone else has taken the time to make you laugh and vice versa.
The understanding that the creator of all things has control over everything, gives peace of mind to those who believe in his power. This faith makes all things work for the best to those who believe.
One of the things that I use to reduce or control the stress is the reading of the Bible. The creation of images in my mind of the things that I'm reading about,helps me reset my mind. Another way of handling stress is spending time with my wife and daughter, it gives me a new perpective of what is important.

I too use physical exercise as a way to reduce stress. Luckily my non-teaching job is that of aerobics instructor and personal trainer. The change in pace, environment and activity really does wonders for my mind as well as the body.

Going to Hawaii was also a great stress releaser. Everything was back on the mainland. Have to keep the humor sometimes in order not to be so overwhelmed.
I will go for a walk during the lunch break or try to get some exercise done when I am home. I also like to just sit, breath, relax and let go. This has helped take out the panic mode and let's me think of a way that will best get the job done.

As a manager, I would often take our brainstorm meetings outside. The business park in which we worked had landscaped "prairie" walking paths. We called them our "Walkabouts". They were specifically for our brainstorming sessions to help deal with a new project or responsibility that we might be adding to the team. The freah air, open space, leisurely pace and exercise seemed to allow for the ideas to flow.
