I try to reframe my thinking, by concentrating on the posative things that I have going and on the success that I have previously had.

Jeanie,
It is always good to step back if you can. When you return the goal is to be refreshed and ready to go. This helps to motivate yourself with new energy.

When the stress seems to be building in the office, I step back, breathe and if that doesn't help I will go walk around the outside of the building. Sometimes the sunlight and walking makes me look at it in a different way.

Sherri ,
Taking a step back is healthy when needed. It can energize you to return with a higher motivation to succeed.

Loretta,

Good Luck! Both of these are keys to our health.

One of the best ways for me to handle workplace has been to remove myself from it. Sometimes, you just have to step away from an issue or a stress factor in order to take a moment and breathe and reflect on the issue. After the moment is taken, you can then come back and think a bit more rationally.

I have to confess, I am a worrier. However, I have just begun a new healthy eating diet and exercise program. Wish me luck!

Hermie,
If you can remove the stress from the work day by stepping aside it is a valuable tool You need to erase it from your subconscious mind also. When you return it is a goal to be refreshed. The question is can you do this consistently.

Take a break! It's an effective cure when you feel you're drowning due to stress. Step out of your workplace for lunch and never discuss work while on break.

Danielle,
If you can approach this situation as a coach and the person accepts you as a coach then it will work. If it is only a release for this person on you and makes you uncomfortable you need to explain your guidelines to them.

Danielle,

Anytime you can include a person in your routine helps to keep consistency in your practice of facing stress. Having a person who you can socialize with is a win win for both of you.

Sometimes I am torn, I want to help a coworker and listen. But sometimes I feel that by listening, I take on the extra stress. was merely trying to help a coworker, but then I get pulled in. This then compounds my stress!

How can I listen but not get caught up in added unnecessary stress?

I have always heard that exercise helps reduce stress.

I found a way to get extra benefits. I began taking an exercise class with a friend. This allows me to exercise and see a friend at the same time (even squeezing in some laughter!)

Jason,

I know when you find an outlet it is something you need to stay with as long as it is healthy.

For my self the best stress reducer I have found is art. I don’t even call my self an artist but I love to paint, most people would be surprised how you can just let everything go when you are painting. The best part is that its art there are no rules your free to do as you please.

Heather,

Excellent plan. The important thing to not forget is to be consistent.

Dr. Gary Carlson

I deal with stress by taking mini walks during break time. I discuss in my head while I walk things that are going on and walking helps me deal with the everyday stresses of my life. I meditate and get massages from my students regularly and that helps in reducing my stress too. I try to encourage other instructors to do these things too.

Priscilla,

It is easier to share success. People love to share their wealth of achievement.

Dr. Gary Carlson

Priscilla,
Understanding nature often raises our appreciation for life and our blessings.

Priscilla,
Good idea, not always easy but if you practice this technique it will work for you.
