Understanding The Needs of Students

It is important to listen to what the students are saying and guide them in the right direction in a warm and caring way.

Jessuina,
Absolutely! People are very observant and body language tells a story all of its own.

Patty Aronoff

JB,
People can reallyt read your body language and your expressions as well so its important to really care and pay attention to the students so you dont make any kind of implications that your not listening!

I agree. If you know what is important to the student... you will know how to guide him/her in the proper program of study.

Maggie ,
Listening is very important in admissions. We need to be active listeners and provide accurate information.

Patty Aronoff

JOEY,
Very good advice. The right program is essential for the student to achieve their dreams. Each program has its career path and this needs to be fully explained to the student.

Patty Aronoff

It is very important, that's why in Admission you do 20% talking and 80% listening. The more information you're able to gather the better the understanding of you student's needs. This reduces and concerns the student might have.

Certainly it is very important to listen and guide them toward the right path. By paying attention and understand what is it the student is looking for will allow the representative to clarify and answer the concerns of the student. For example a student might misunderstand the term Patient Technician (PCT) and Patient care Assistant (PCA) since many hospitals will prefer to hire a PCT then employed or title them as PCA. Again yes it is extremely important to utilize the power of communication to better understand what is it the student is really wanted.

Patrick,
If we don't listen, we are doing a disservice to both the student and the school. Active listening guides us in providing accurate and informative discussions. This is a life changing discussion.

Patty,

I totally agree with you. I think that it is important to understand that every prospective students is an individual with different needs and goals. It is imperative for the Admissions representative to approach each person's needs in order to maximize the outcome of the interview process.

It is critical that we take the time to listen to students and their needs so that we can effectly assit them with their educational goals and needs

Ian,

Integrity and honesty are the best advertisement a school can promote.

Patty Aronoff

Breonna,

It must be the right fit for both the student and the school for a successful graduate. A student who drops out has not been successful in their own or for the school.

Patty Aronoff

Lauren,

They quickly realize that you have their best interest at heart and are not just another number. You care!

Patty Aronoff

Mirenia,

Exactly. But following the rules in the admissions process ensures the protective services of CIE for both parties.

Patty Aronoff

I agree. If we, as admissions reps forget to do that, we will be doing the student and injustice.

I have come across students that often times dont know what their goals or ambitions are. Showing that you care, and asking probing questions, can help you & the student identify what would be the best fit for them.

Some of the best feedback I have gotten from a prospective student is when I understand our school will not meet their needs and suggest another institution.
Most are shocked that you have something nice to say about another school.
Lauren

Understanding the needs of students is important but we are limited by the rules governing the admissions process,we cant change our processes to meet one persons individual need

Elvis ,
Active listening is key to success for admissions. It is unraveling the prospective student to find the surety that is needed in enrollment.
