Discounts and scholarships?

In the introduction, I read that it is not proper to offer discounts. What is this specifically referring to?

As an institution of higher education, we give out scholarships for various reasons. When I worked in secondary education a 50% discount was given to all staff who had children that wanted to attend the school.

thomas,

Working through the Veterans Administration, your school would need to be approved by the state approving agency. They oversee veterans benefits and discounts.

thomas,
The school must maintain all records of payments. It should be ready for viewing when the commission completes an on-site visit at your school.

Are we allowed to give special prices to military men and women?

when payments are received do we notify the commission?

Hermann,

Absolutely not...any reduction in tuition must be approved by the Commission office. The scenario of enroll today and receive $500 would not be approved. It is providing an incentive to enroll and against rule.

Patty Aronoff

So, you are saying a tuition reduction is not allowed, but a discount is? So, we would be allowed to offer a special saying "if you enroll today, we will take $500 off of your tuition"?

Carla,

Discounts are regulated by the Commission. Always check with Commission staff when considering discounts or reduction in tuition.

Patty Aronoff

Ok it is up to the school if they want to give there employee any kind of discounts. But for students I don't think there can be any special treatment. We have to treat everybody the same and have them go throw the FA department.

Duane ,

For example, if there is a reduction it must be offered to all.

Patty Aronoff

The proper usage of discounting in the State of Florida should be referred to as reduction. This alleviates any ties to offering, whether it be a discount or scholarship or tuition off prices to organizations, to any other benefits you may receive.

Erica,
No that would be considered discounting which is against the Florida law.

Patty Aronoff

So does this mean we can offer specials for our families and friends?

Timothy,
Discounts are given as a reduction in the cost for certain circumstances. For example if you enroll today we will take $500 off your tuition.
