Loans

What are some positive spins or tips reps have used when talking with their potential students about taking out sub/unsub loans?

Jose,
Every student has a different financial situation. Funding for a student must be tailored directly to their needs and ability to pay.

If students can pay part of the sub/unsubsidized loan while being at school it's gonna be more beneficiary for them.

Dale,
Agreed!

Dale,
Financial aid officers are the experts.

Cedric,
They are the experts and have extensive knowledge.

Patricia,
Exactly!

Jennifer,
They need to know their options for paying for school.

Andrew,
Financial Aid regulations and processes change daily. It is best left to the experts.

Kimberly,
You have separated the duties well. Smaller schools have to accomplish the enrollments with less personnel.

Michael,
90 degrees of separation is a good rule of thumb.

I still think the FA is better person to explain about loans

Yes i think we should leave telling about loan up to FA

I think we should leave that up to FA to speak about loans.

Katherine,
It is really a best practice for the schools.

We also have our Financial Aid Department give all detailed information about loans to students rather than the admissions staff. Although we have knowledge about financial aid options, we do not get the information needed to tell a student what they qualify for or guidelines about repaying the loans.

well think that the rep are not the one that should explian that it should by finacial aid

I do suggest bringing up Scholarship opportunities as well and recommend using the Library and their FA Coordinator to help with assisting them.

I never answer questions regarding loans. I leave that to the FA department. That's what they're there for.

This is a question best answered by a Financial Aid Rep. While Recruitment representatives are trained in handling objections and obstacles when it comes to enrollment, most are not qualified to get into the ins and outs of these types of questions. Honestly, I feel if we have done a good enough job describing what we do and have a program that fits their needs perfectly, the type of loan they receive to cover the cost is not as much of an objection.
