ALWAYS do what's right by the student....

I'm sure we've all heard about the increased education regulations coming out of Washington D.C. over the past several years, intended to provide more accountability to all institutions' marketing, recruiting, and admisisons practices. Many education professionals have complained about the increased scrutiny, which is apalling to me. If these enhanced laws further protect the student from disception and misleading practices, then they are a good thing. It's a shame it takes a stronger microscope to force some educational professionals to do the right thing. We should always do what is right by the student and nothing will ever be in question. Besides that, the student will benefit because they will be a better fit for the institution, and the institution will gain credibility in the eyes of that student which will lead to referrals and other enrollments. Doing what's right will always come back around to you in a positive way.

Justin ,
They are dependent upon us for information gathering. This is where honesty and integrity show through. Withholding of information is equivalent to misleading the student. It is our duty to provide all the information so that they understand.

Nancy,

Agreed! The rules and regulations provide us the foundation for compliance. It is our choice whether not we follow those rules and this is where ethics comes into play.

Students look to us admissions professionals for guidance as well as dream makers. It is important for the individual as well as the school to set high standards for themselves and the student. An admissions representative that lacks integrity sets the school up for incresed scrutiny and has the capability of turning the student away from higher education.

Ethics - Moral principals that govern a person's behavior. It can also govern an institutions behavior. It's values, right verses wrong, ideals and standdards.

Scott,

Excellent point! If we are always doing the right thing and always being compliant, then there should be no worries. Unfortunately there are those who do not have the same ethical stance and create the news.
