Moving into a career
We are assisting prospective students to make career and training decisions. That is why it is so important to know as much as possible about the jobs and workplaces for which potentials students training.
Isabelle,
In order to be successful, students need to develop their personal brand. This is what will set them apart from the competition.

I think it important to share ongoing support, and focus on their skills, those acquired as well as those being acquiring. In addition, continuously feed, strengthen & support their interviewing/marketing skills ... this is crucial in today's job market ...
susan,
Your post is very reflective and inspiring. We are in a business that continues to change lives.

The people who are interested in our program are generally blue collar workers who happen to be out of work at this time. They do not see a future for themselves and have no idea what they are going to do or how they will feed their families. It is vitally important to explain to them exactly how they will improve their lives and where they will be able to work. You must explain that if nothing is done, they will stay in the same situation they are in now for a very long time. They need to see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that there is hope for them in the future with a much better job!
JUDY ,
So true! Every opportunity must be taken seriously as the job hunt is an exhaustive process. Students will need to market themselves to find the right job.
It is also imperative to prepare them for a longer than usual job search because of the current employment situation. Five years ago you would Graduate and expect to spend on average about 6 months seeking employment. Today it may take up to 9-12 months. Especially if the field requires expirience along with a degree and certifications.
Ruth,
It is very important that their dream and reality are consistent. Disappointments come when the job is not what they envisioned.
Part of admissions is helping prospective students move forward toward realizing their dreams. It seems that being familiar with jobs and possible work environments is a critical aspect to make sure their dream and the reality are consistent.
Yes, our students are looking for guidance into a better career and ultimately a better life. It is our job to provide that guidance from day one.
Kimberly,
We must prepare them from day one to step into that career of their dreams.
