Accreditation????????
There is no question about it. A school should always be accredited. As an Admin Rep for a beauty school it is vital that we are accredited with the highest standards to give our students the best possible chance of employment post graduation. : )
Susan,
It is very hard work and well worth it. Your school will proudly be able to state their accreditation!

We are a small school currently going through the process. We have just recently submitted our standards. I think it will be well worth all the hard work going into it.
Renae,
It is an overwhelming task and very expensive. However, once you are accredited and eligible for Title IV disbursements you open a whole new way of paying for School. Make sure the accrediting agency that you select is approved by USDOE and recognized by the Commission for Independent Education.

I am glad to read the comments. I have been struggling to get the money to get accreditate it is a lot of money and work. I hav been a scool for nine years, but it has been hard without title v money. I think a school should do it but they jist have to be ready.
Omar,
Prospective students are very knowledgeable and savvy. With all the diploma mills in the news, many employers will only accept degrees from "accredited" schools.

I agree with Matthew that schools can have high standards and still deliver a quality education without accreditation, but recruitment of students is much harder when an institution is not accredited. Accreditation has become a "buzz word" nowadays with students looking to get back into school, so even if you can give them 100,000 reasons why a non-accredited school is a good fit for them, it will be very difficult to get them to enroll or even come to visit your school because of this simple fact.
Greg,
This is why when the economy dips, people think about going back to school.
This is true. As we continue to seek out education and new students we have to remember that many of the new students are seeking financial assistance. The economy has poor stricken us all when it comes to ways of paying for continued education. The lack of employment has caused many school seekers to search for financial aid and financial support, which can only be granted to accredited institutions.
Matthew,
Pass rates are indicative of the education they are receiving. Great job!
Francisco,
Institutions need to seek accrediting bodies that fit their school.
Michelle,
Primarily, it gives the institution the opportunity to apply to participate in Federal financial aid awards.
Michelle,
Actually both processes are extensive!
Jacqueline,
Schools cannot participate in Federal financial aid without it.
My school is not accredited, however, we have only had 4 students fail the National Exam within the last 4 years. On average we have 4 classes graduate each year. I believe that accreditation has its place, but I believe that the school can have high standards without accreditation.
The difference is clear to me, however, seems to me that universities need cumbersome different entities for both certificates.
What is the plus of being accredited?
It seems as if being licensed is tougher than being accredited
I have found it can be very confusing for perspective stuents and its my job to fully explain the difference. Schools need to be licensed for a period of time and it can be expensive to be accedited but it certainly can have a positive effect for the students with financial aid options.
Jennifer,
Additionally they need to be approved by the Board of Nursing.
